Refer to my previous post as to how to be right.
If the end of the Argument is "shit happens" then it is like saying "the god's will it" and that is dumb.
To just flat out accept it with no recourse, or excuse it as a divine occurrence, with no power to change.
Do you believe in Fate? Or do you make your own?

    I suppose it's a matter of timing.

If you wait until after something bad happens and then say "Shit happens", you get no credit for anything which might separate you from dumb. It doesn't mean you are dumb, it just doesn't count much either way.

As a concept, "Shit happens" is only valuable (and non-dumb) if you say it ahead of time - before any shit actually happens.

"Shit happens, so let's think about what sorts of consequences might arise. Let's try to see dimly into the future. Maybe we can head-off some of the worst consequences of the bad shit that might happen."

    Cheers,

That i agree with but i do understand that sometimes there is no preparation or thought process that can predict a failure. As an example when we use to fill napalm canisters you inspect the canister prior to and watch it while filling. Somehow it would start to leak down once in the o level guys hands. Shit happened dont know what but it did so we would run down there with ordnance tape and seal the leak. Now that isnt every canister nor was it ever in the same spot so you cant plan a fix for it. At least now when you watch the old documentaries showing napalm getting dropped you know why there is an x made out of tape on it.

Yup and not trying to avoid a potential problem is stupid. I dont think that is what happened with the op though.

Exxon's already stated that what was Spilled in Ark. is Not Technically Crude, so its not their problem.
