Re: No increases in taxes.
Nail on the head. I'm assuming that's why the tax is on cigarettes and not some other consumer product. They know how many people smoke and they know how many of those people won't quit because of it and just eat the tax regardless. Then if you are opposed to it, they just take the health stance and say it's incentive to get people to quit....as if the tax has the consumer's/taxpayer's health as priority one.

Re: No increases in taxes.
What we need to do is get everyone on the same page and tell them to eat a dick on paying taxes for anything. I bet they can pass a budget that works once we say enough is enough. There is no reason this country should not be able to function with is whats collected on just income tax. Jesus christ they collected over 1.1 trillion in just income taxes last year. These fuckers aren't going to be happy until most people just get a statement in an envelope on friday saying how much they paid the government so they can go live in government housing eating government cheese.

Re: No increases in taxes.
It just seems like they are either too lazy or inept to lay the hammer down on bogus spending. When finances get tight, you start cutting out your netflix, gym membership, cable, gamefly, eating out, etc.... get rid of the little, unnecessary items from your budget to start and work from there.
It's like they assumed from the get go that our astronomical spending was ALL necessary and nothing could be cut. I don't care how we got here, we are here and need to get out of this mess and continually finding ways to tax the citizens isn't the answer.

Re: No increases in taxes.
You really think eliminating cigarettes will save tens of billions? As if everyone will magically be healthy and not get seriously ill from something else if everyone stopped smoking. Come on now, you know better than that.
Even still, again, that's not even the point. This tax is doing what the cigarette companies have been demonized for, but somehow our government gets a pass on it?
