Marriage is a court document that legally binds you to that person until you legally get binded out. Gays should have this right it they want. If they want, Call it a civil union or not I guess I follow the rules of reproduction. reproduction = marriage. Reality its just wording. I still want privacy in from gays in the locker room.

Perhaps because marriage is not a single purpose (procreation) thing? Because love and commitment are also a part? And far from collecting benefits, partners who are not married suffer in other ways (such as hospital visitation)?

Love and commitment overcomes all even when it comes to hospital visitation. What do you prefer love and commitment or the right for hospital visitation.

I don't see why it matters to anyone except those involved. There are a number of reasons to allow it - hospital rights ,wills, legal benefits, medical/health benefits, or anything else that you would expect a straight couple to benefit from that doesn't involve children. Even then, there is adoption and artificial insemination. I just don't see the point. Nobody benefits from this situation. For a country founded on religious freedom, there is an appallingly little amount of that freedom that is allowed to be exercised.

It really doesn't matter if anyone likes it or not. It's going to happen sooner rather than later and those that don't like it can go cry about it if that's what they so choose.
