Re: Evolution, Genetics, and Resistant Viruses
The only person not looking at the whole picture is Laz.
The sheer amount of variables involved in evolving into a human form may be staggering. But as long as we don't know how many of those variables need to be aligned, we can't calculate odds. It might be pretty damn probable that life of any sort will eventually evolve into a humanoid form. Life on earth, of a mammal or reptilian nature for instance have a LOT of things in common. Two eyes, mouth, 4 limbs, ears... Thats a lot of similarities. Perhaps ANY life on ANY planet would evolve similarly given s similar atmosphere, gravity, temp, etc.
If things tend to align similarly given even remotely similar variables, then the "odds" go down exponentially. Personally I believe that life is far more prevalent than we give it credit for. I would bet there are basic forms of life on at least 3 planets in this solar system alone. I would also bet than ANY planet in the goldilocks zone with liquid water has SOME form of life. And since we're finding out that that situation is FAR more prevalent than we ever thought possible even 5-10 years ago, this universe has to be TEEMING with life. Some more advanced than us. And some less. We aren't special. In fact we're likely less than special.PvtPrivate liked this post

Re: Evolution, Genetics, and Resistant Viruses
This is probably the truth, who know's what's out there, the possibilities are just staggering, there is probably forms of "life" we can't even conceve of yet , assuming were all special the universe has made for us(yet somehow we deserve eternal punishment) is just silly and childish. Like it or not the humanity is slowly growing up, I think were in a sorta of adolescence, we are gaining more responsibility and power(industrialization, space travel, nuclear power, I could go on for hours) but we have obvious growing pains and we are learning some stuff that question our once concrete ideas. I think this goes far beyond simple secularization
Know matter how much you tout your bronze age myth's you can't change it. And I'm certain for the most part it will be for the better for the human race.Last edited by PvtPrivate; 05-30-13 at 08:29 PM.

Re: Evolution, Genetics, and Resistant Viruses
Like Source and Wicked said... Unlike you, I don't say that it's the truth and the only answer. And I allow for the possibility that I am 100% totally wrong. I might be so far off base it's not even funny. And I sure as hell won't run around telling people to drop to their knees and worship my hypothesis.
The difference between my belief set is that it is evolving daily as we learn more and more about the universe. Yours is stuck a few thousand years in the past and will never change as long as the great jesusbook remains immutable. Well... I'm sure once something totally invalidates some portion of it, it will just get reinterpreted once again to include whatever truth causes it issues.

Infinite diversity in infinite combination. Humans have done well to place their efforts into scientific endeavors but don't let that cloud your mind and force it to close off to others beliefs and traditions. If we ever meet ET he/she will be so different it maybe difficult to comprehend them but we shouldn't let that stop us from trying. That ability to tolerate and have an open mind starts here on our planet with each other. So do I think that religion is a load of ancient crap? Well to be honest yes but I will not be the guy who is so close minded to tell them they are all wrong because I seriously don't care. Humans have a wonderful and colorful past and it is important to reflect on that so we know how we went wrong so our mistakes may never happen again. History is full of intolerance and that has led to countless lives lost because of it. Don't let that be you.
