Cops gun down dog
Watch the video, who do you think is at fault here? In the dog owners defense, he may not have had time to put his windows up because the police were clearly walking over to engage him. Additionally, he had no reason to suspect that he was going to be detained. Why would they even arrest him in the first place? He was merely recording the incident from a safe distance.
In the police officers defense, once the dog was out, they had every right to protect themselves from an apprehension of an attack.
I guess I'm more annoyed that people continue to be arrested for doing nothing more than recording a police officer. . .

Re: Cops gun down dog
Absolute shame. I can understand why the pistol was drawn and used but there were alternatives to handling the situation differently. Situational awareness, ask the guy you are about to arrest to roll up the window on the car so the 120lb South Los Angeles gutter bear won't get out. Maybe that is too naive thinking but it is sad to see a dog put down regardless of the circumstance.
To lighten things up, here is a pick of one of mine.

Re: Cops gun down dog
I could rant about this video for an hour or so but I will not do so here.
I just wished cops were held to the same scrutiny as citizens when it comes to drawing and discharging their firearms. Dog did not need to die. Dude did not need arrested. I also do not like their posture at all based on how compliant the dude was. They were angry and cops should not be angry.
I'm out.
Poor fucking dog.

Re: Cops gun down dog
Once the dog was released I don't necessarily blame the police officers. They could have used mace to deter the dog from approaching, but given the short amount of time they had and the threat in front of them, I can't necessarily blame them because they were forced to make a quick decision.
I'm more annoyed with what happened prior to the dog getting out. The dog owner should have taken measures to restrain the dog. I also don't understand why the police officers felt the need to arrest the dog owner. He was at a safe distance among other pedestrians observing the incident; he was also not the only person recording. Nothing in the dog owners behavior seemed hostile or aggressive; he was compliant with the police officers. Why did feel the need to put him in handcuffs?

Re: Cops gun down dog
The police have the bulk of the blame here. The owner shares a very minor part. He could have kept his mouth closed or had the windows up higher so the dog cant jump out. However its not against the law to take video or run off at the mouth. They just cost their city funding. Damn shame the dog is the one that got hurt seeing he was the only one acting appropriately.
