Re: Do you really have the right to carry a gun in public?
If a neighborhood watch has a carry license and wants to carry for their own protection, I am ok with it. However there should be a fine line one when and how they use it. They to observe and report. Not intervene. If the NW person is not involving themselves, they shouldn't have to draw the weapon and use it.
However if they are witnessing a crime and are calling it in, when the criminal confronts them. They should be able to use as necessary to protect their life.
I just fear with gun toting NW, they will want to play hero and believe they have seen every cop movie to be able to handle the situation. They aren't trained nor properly identified as and officer and could quite easily make a situation much worse than what it needed to be.
So I guess my opinion would be if they carried as for self defense and only observed and reported, that is fine. However if they enter someone's property following a potential criminal and discharge the weapon, they should face a trial.
When I was younger and my parents were gone on a trip. I locked myself out of the house. Neighbor wasn't home so I couldn't get a key. So I more or less broke into my own home (took off window screen climbed in through unlocked window. If a neighborhood watch saw and reported I would be fine, explaining to an officer. However if he came in after me and with adrenaline pumping shot me, he should go to jail. He wasn't protecting anyone and was way outside of what he was allowed to do.Morningfrost liked this post

Now what about states like say texas where you can shoot an intruder breaking into your neighbors house? I dont care if they are neighborhood watch or not. If someone is breaking into a home put a bullet in his ass. If someone is trying to beat someone to death put a bullet in his ass. We have laws already that dictate what you can and can not do with a gun. Whether your neighbor hood watch or not is irrelevant.

I can Pretty much agree with this, But, and a Big one here, all Jiggly and oiled, This is exactly what we have seen in Fla.
Self defense carry, Observe and call in, Approach and intervene cause "they always get away," loose control, Shoot and kill.
Obviously GZ felt he was empowered by his ability to Carry a Firearm.
If you were neighborhood Watch, and Unarmed Would you ever Dare to Approach and Intervene? From my perspective it'd be the last thing on my mind.Last edited by SmokenScion; 08-01-13 at 06:04 PM.
