60 years ago, the US helped overthrow Iran's democratically elected government in support of one that would be more advantageous to certain corporations.

I didn't read the article because I know the history behind it but is there some new revelation that hasn't been documented numerous documentaries? Additionally that's the very reason why America and our allies are so reviled by the Iranian establishment.

    New revelation? No.

But it does point out the irony of how a supposedly democracy loving country could snuff out another county's chance at it for purely economic reasons. To revisit the ouster of a democratically elected government after all these years is interesting. Especially considering how we rail on them for being a dictatorial regime...that we created.

Why is this on the "news" forums? Don´t we have a "tell me something I don´t know" forum?

Yes, recently released documents confirmed that the US was involved, and corporate interests were the reason. Our government generally denies that it fights wars for oil or corporate interests, so I think that it's important to recognize it when proof emerges. That way, the next time the US invades an oil-rich country with flimsy or inconsistent reasoning, while making billions for well-connected corporations, we won't be fooled... right?

Wars or conflicts are always over one or more of three reasons resources, revenge or power but they all end with economic gain or loss.

That's not what we're looking at here. This isn't WWII, where we fought a good war and ended up with some economic benefits. This was us removing a democracy, purely out of the self-interest of corporations. We were unquestionably the bad guys here.

Just goes to show what a dog and pony show Washington has been for the last hundred years. The problem is, there is no mechanism in place to weed out greed and corruption.... Vote them out you say, but whenever a real candidate comes along for any office higher up the chain than city dog catcher, he gets drowned out by super wealthy candidates that are willing to spend boatloads knowing holding office is an investment now days.
