Well, not to judge the subjects skill set... a simple explanation (upon employment) of what the store needs to simply operate might have given him some perspective and stopped this from happening in the first place.

Im sure it does. Thats really not the point, nor the motivator. Writing off our donations will never put their fair market value in our pocket. Most of us look at it as investing in the community, and simply the right thing to do.

I don't know. It gives you tax credits, and makes you look good to the community, which drives more business towards your store.

Nah, i dont think you missed anything.

That was kinda my point, but rather than sitting him down after the incident, this should be explained upon employment.

Yes, if we donate product from our inventory, it does qualify for tax credits. But don't try telling me that those credits would even come close to the profit margins we need to make on the merchandise to keep the business running, and 150 people gainfully employed. Now we managers also tend to accrue merchandise from vendors that are no cost to the company, and never entered into our inventory such as free displays, samples, and the like. We save this stuff up for just such occasions, to give them away for good causes. We get no tax credit and make no money on it. Sure it puts us in a good light, and may send more business our way and we would be foolish to deny that. But at the end of the day, its good for everyone involved, and that's the reason for doing it.

I think it's sad that it would need to be in the manual. Kind of like "DANGER THIS COFFEE IS HOT HERP DERP" or "Don't listen to that chick with the implants who sings really bad pop music and bats her artificial lashes like her eyelids have Parkinsons". Some things are just common sense.
