They get it for free, sure. But their rent, electricity, overhead, disposal, payroll, taxes, etc... are NOT free. Do you know how much Goodwill gets in on a daily basis for things that they can NOT sell or even give away for free? They get obscure junk, nasty furniture, but their policy is to take anything that does not have any tears/rips or noticeable damage. Clothes by the truckload that may or may not be something they can sell.
They have to have people sort all of that crap, clean/recondition it, stock it... all so some puke kid can give it away? Fuck that! It doesn't matter if it was free. Lots of work goes in to handling all of that stuff. In no way was he doing the RIGHT thing. 1) He was breaking the law. 2) If everyone did that, Goodwill would cease to exist.

No kidding that stuff isnt free. They dont get that much obscure shit and nasty furniture seeing as most have drop offs with people working to make sure that does not happen. 2 weeks ago my sister asked me to bring my trailer over so she could make a huge goodwill run. They took next to nothing including 2 older over 50 inch tv's because "people want flat screens now". So you are wrong on that count because they turn a lot of shit away.
Yeah they have people sort, clean, and stock it. Fuck no it doesn't matter because they are hiring disabled people and paying them less then minimum wage. Yes he was doing the right thing because he was giving the discount to actual poor people. You know what the "non profit" organisation is suppose to be for. I doubt those discounts are going to put a serious stain on a 5 billion dollar a year organisation.

So DG, when you had employees you would be fine with them giving clients a discount at their discretion? Goodwill stores are no different than any other retail store in this scenario. Cashiers at any other retauler are not allowed to discount things at the register without approval regardless of how poor the customer looks or acts, and neither did this kid. Did they go to the extreme? Possibly. Were they within their rights? Yup.

Re: fuck goodwill(stores)
I dont run a retail store. That being said with the businesses i did run yeah i let them give discounts. With the business i own now i give discounts. Of course all of it is subjective because you dont know anything about the companies i've run.
Now when have i said they weren't within their rights? Sometimes whats within a persons rights does not make it whats right.

Re: fuck goodwill(stores)
Wrong questions to ask. Yes i do give floors away for free and yes i do do some for the cost of the material. Mostly the wife, family, friends, and the shop i sub out of do ask me to help people out. I also help people with their vehicles if i think they deserve a hand. The upside to me doing all that is it generates paying jobs for me.
Any other questions you want to ask?
I might as well ask what you think the odds of me doing that shit makes me feel warm and fuzzy?Last edited by deathgodusmc; 09-29-13 at 08:45 PM.
