Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
The problem with it all Ira is the steps taken that never were in the past followed by a televised finger pointing session. If it was business as usual i dont think anyone would be that upset.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
Come to think of it, I can guarantee the WWII Memorial wasn't accessable during the last shutdown.
National World War II Memorial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"It opened to the public on April 29, 2004, and was dedicated by President George W. Bush on May 29, 2004, two days before Memorial Day."

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
Which is why I used the Lincoln Memorial as another example. It is blocked by barricades during the shutdown when in all previous shutdowns it is never been blocked. I believe the difference between other shutdowns and this one is that this is politically motivated behavior on behalf of the current administration. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to spend additional government funds on blocking access to open air public memorials that are on city streets. Nor is there any reason whatsoever for this administration to attempt to block entry to privately owned historical sites such as Mount Vernon. Other than politically motivated reasons, of course.
so I wasn't speaking about this one World War II monument. I was speaking about all monuments of this type and the national mall itself. Walking around the national mall was not prohibited in previous shutdowns. Injuring shops and things like that were prohibited. But that's because they were closed as a result of the shutdown. Walking around outside on the grass and looking around is something that many many tourists come to do. Blocking access to these areas is purely politically motivated. There's no precedent for it, it's never been done before so therefore it's not unreasonable for me to think that it is a politically motivated move.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
I'm more willing to bet it has more to do with what Ira is getting at than anything political. Seems much more reasonable.
Plus......What does Barry win by closing them and looking like even more of an assclown again? Sure, it gives him an opportunity to point the finger of stink, but it has done nothing but provide photo-ops for his opposition. If it were politically motivated, Barry would have already hit the phone booth and donned his cape and tights. But he hasn't. And that points another finger towards the legal/ liability reasoning Ira is speaking of.
And it's dog wagging.
The real reason to be pissed is a few hundred yards away. We can be pissed about monument and park closures later. We are being led by fighting children, and they are fighting over all of our paychecks. That should have our attention, not statues.Last edited by dex71; 10-03-13 at 07:29 PM.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
But since when does logic and government ever fit in the same sentence?
I would also say he doesn't seem to mind looking like an assclown as long as he gets to be on tv pointing fingers.
