Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
Have you ever been to Washington DC? It's not set up like that dude. Did you even read the article? The Obama Administration ordered NPS personnel to go and erect barricades and actively keep people from walking down public sidewalks. This cost more than just leaving it like on any other day. Also, the NPS in Washington DC is not furloughed, so, again, you're wrong.
Why is what really happened here so hard to comprehend? I mean how partisan do you have to be not to see that this is all kinds of fucked up?

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
I'm certain that Obama was aware of the fact that the NPS would be closing, as were all the members of Congress. This is a CONSEQUENCE of the shut down. No one said "hey let's stick it to those vets' from Mississippi and close the memorial" - the law required the closure. Just like Mt. Rushmore, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty, etc. etc. etc.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
Again, you're wrong. AND it's clear you never read the links posted.
CORRECTION - it's not the NPS that monitor these public spaces. It's the park police who monitor these public areas, and it is they who were ordered by the administration to close these open, public memorials. The park police are who I referred to before that are not affected by the shutdown.
You aren't getting out of this. It's fucked up, and the Obama Administration ordered it.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
When you make a call to barricade off FREE out door monuments you have a specific motive. Obama's goal wasn't to stick it to those vets it was stick it to those repubs that wont bend to my will and then go on tv and point fingers and talk shit. I want to see this law that requires the closure of outdoor, free standing, free to gaze while walking past monuments. By all means i want to see that law.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
The funny part is they actually spent money trying to keep people out of them so they can point fingers when leaving them alone would have cost nothing.

Re: Hatin' on WWII vets?
That's actually the really shitty part - closing all of this shit cost money. I spoke with a number of the Clerks at the various federal courts I work with often and they have been "planning for the shut-down" for a week, all that time spent on a bullshit task that only complicates their lives and makes doing their job harder. So yeah it's totally fucked, they have to plan to put themselves out of work. And then when the government finally opens, the case load is no different it's just now totally fucked up.
As to the prior post - I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense, but the bureaucracy has to deal with the fact that they can't spend any money or incur any debt that isn't authorized. The WWII monument clearly had some live personnel who had been furloughed, or there are operating expense associated with it, so the 'park' was closed to ensure that the NPS would not incur any expense or expend any funds in violation of the law.
