    Re: Interesting...

From the PDF linked in the article.

The Australia buyback appears to have had no effect on crime otherwise. One study (Leigh & Neill 2010) has proven confusing in that its abstract suggests that Australia’s gun buyback reduced firearm homicide
rates by 80%, but the body of the report finds no effect. Others (Reuter & Mouzas 2003) have used the
same data and also found no effect on crime although they also noted that mass shootings appear to
have disappeared in Australia. A third study (Chapman et al 2006) using Australian data from 1979 to
2003 shows that the firearm homicide rate was already declining prior to the firearm reforms and that there is no evidence that the new legislation accelerated the declines. This remains true when data
through 2007 are added to the analysis (conducted by G. Ridgeway on 1/3/2013 at NIJ).
Just thought those who point to Australia as the "it works" example would enjoy.

After reading your excerpt Civil, I would conclude it did work.

And Laz, I read the pdf and couldn't find the interesting part. Could you show me where it is?

The article has a fair bit of spin - but underlying memo they are taking pot shots at is encouraging.

Though one could also spin it to say that it also shows (assuming true) that firearms didn't reduce crime in Australia either. Since the numbers/trend stayed the same before and after.

This. The studies show no reduction in crime, and no faster reduction in gun crime than was already happening. But hey, at least they don't have guns, right?

They didn't have guns to begin with. Read the Snopes Article.

Not bias enough, therefore is false.

    Also from that article:
Recent data on the assault weapons ban impact is scarce because since the 1990s, Congress has blocked most federal research on the effect that firearms have on public health.
    O_o.
