I like watching Kimmel. I used to watch letterman, never cared for leno.

I was also a bit surprised to hear some people hatin' on Letterman.

I stopped watching Letterman a long time ago, but that was mostly because I mostly stopped watching TV.

I was kinda grumpy about how his show changed over time, but I got over it. The show he did at 12:30 could never work at 11:30. He needed to compete with The Tonight Show, and doing the same show that worked for a niche audience was not an option. As time passed he took fewer chances (and the band got less dangerous), but that's because he was doing his job.

I'd still see the show occasionally, and yeah - he could be kind of a douche to guests now and then. But I liked that. It gave the show a spark of interest. Leno was unbelievably bland. I'm not hatin' on Leno either. I think he's a talented guy, and can be funny, but his job as Tonight Show host is to cater to the Tonight Show audience, and that audience has nothing in common with me.

I think the Babe Ruth comparison was a good one. I was never that into baseball, but I understand why The Babe is one of the all-time greats. Even though it's been a long time since I watched the league that Letterman plays in, I think he lives up that that standard.

I shifted my comedy show viewing to things like the Daily Show and Colbert, and I don't watch them on TV. I think Colbert's show is great, and apparently he's just been named Letterman's replacement.

... and I'll probably stop watching Colbert when that happens.
