Have you heard about the mess with the representative from the Monroe area (Republican)? He ran and won against the incumbent who, concidentally, Jindal had defended for using the services of a DC Madam. A video was recently posted by a relatively new, low viewership online news site with heavy ties to the incumbent. It showed him making out in his office with a staffer. There's scandal in that. Jindal is calling for the representative to step down (I think he may have?). That, in itself, is funny. What's not funny but even more scandalous is that the footage was surreptitiously filmed inside of a government office for a representative, which amounts to a very illegal action.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

I liked this part:
Still, Legislators became concerned that the proposal wasn't broad enough and did not reflect the breadth of Bibles used by religious communities. In particular, some lawmakers worried that singling out the King James version of the Bible would not properly reflect the culture of Louisiana.

Gotta look at these things as an opportunity. I'd nominate:
"Confederacy of Dunces"
Seriously. The problem isn't that promoting books is a bad idea. This is just the wrong book. People should write their legislator (or whatever the hell they call 'em in Louisiana) with other suggestions. This should be about promoting Louisiana, right? This is like the official state bird (pelican), or the official state flower (magnolia), or the official state body part (tits).
By the way, I guessed at the bird but had to look up the flower. Do you know how I found it? Why, at the official Louisiana House of Representatives web site of course! See the official information they provide here:
State Bird and Flower
And, having looked at that web page so thoughtfully provided by the Louisiana House of Representatives, please join me in saying to the entire Louisiana House of Representatives, "HOLY TAP-DANCING JESUS, YOU ARE A COMPLETE EMBARRASSMENT. Please ask around your district until you can find anyone of any age who has read any book at all that meets the following standard:
a) Has significantly more words than pictures
b) At least 200 pages
c) Not about sports
d) Not the bible
Nominate that person as your successor, and then KILL YOURSELVES."
Damn. The URL even has spaces in it. I was going to joke here that it was probably made in the 90s using MS FrontPage by the unemployed cousin of some state rep, BUT THEN I LOOKED AT THE FUCKING SOURCE AND IT REALLY WAS MADE BY FRONTPAGE.
Version 3.0. That's 1997. The output from FrontPage 3 wouldn't pass a validator when it was NEW.
This is the OFFICIAL WEB SITE of the LOUISIANA STATE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The official image of the official bird looks like it was officially made using an official picture ripped out of an official children's book from an official dentists office and officially scanned in GLORIOUS 1-BIT COLOR. The image is so crudely scanned that I can't even read the fucking text.
I guess I need to learn how to swear cajun-style, because my yankee-style profanity and vulgarity just isn't up to the task.
I still think it's a bad idea to make the Bible the official state book of Louisiana, but now it's because I like the Bible too much. Even my blaspheming, heretic heart doesn't want to insult Jesus like that.
Louisiana, please stop wasting time on this idiotic nonsense and FIX YOUR SHIT.
Damnit,
AetheLove
edit: was about to close the WebDev source viewer when I noticed that the single element in the body of the document was a gif (bird-a.gif), and that - to my utter surprise - someone had actually set some alt-text for that img tag. The alt-text reads: "bird-a.gif".
Kill me now.

Why does Louisiana need a state book? First they should solve their problems with literacy. :-)
