Governor Daniels signs gun bill into law
INDIANAPOLIS — House Bill 1065 allows gun owners to store their guns in their car while at work.
Load, aim and fire. That's the routine these licensed gunmen follow, round after round, inside the Midwest Gun Range.
Inside the shop, Brad Foster has seen his share of laws change during his 25 years in business. He says it happens as fast as a speeding bullet.
"We are seeing more and more states that offer conceal and carry, and we're seeing more and more states pass laws where you can shoot someone in your home," said Foster.
Now, Foster has to get familiar with a new law. House Bill 1065 allows licensed owners to lock their gun in their car while their car is parked in the lot at work.
Governor Daniels said the new law will protect people from business owners and corporations that create rules to make it illegal to bring a gun on their property.
In a statement, Daniels said, "considering the clear language of the Second Amendment of the U.S Constitution and the even stronger language of Article 1 Section 32 of the Indiana Constitution, protecting these rights as provided in HEA 1065 is appropriate."
Daniels added, "The concerns raised by the bill do not suffice to justify a trespass on a fundamental right so expressly protected by our founding documents."
Critics argued against the bill and used a March 5th incident in Portage, Indiana to make their case.
A man opened fire in the Indiana Workforce Development office after his employee review.
The bill said there are some exceptions to the law.
People who work on or around:
-School Property and buses
-Certain Child Care Facilities
-Jails and Prisons
-Colleges and universities
-Domestic Violence Shelters
-Public Utilities
-Certain Transportation Employees
Are exempt from the law.
Governor Daniels said there were reservations about some of the language in the bill.
He said there was ambiguity because the bill doesn't clearly spell out which shelters, child-care facilities are exempt and those that aren't.
The bill will be signed into law July 1st.
Here is my stance...I think its great...because we have the 2nd amendment...but I think its bullshit that the government keeps coming in and telling businesses how to operate...same thing as smoking bans. It's THIER business, i say do what they want....

Its THEIR business, yes...which is why the bill doesn't force the companies to allow concealed at work, just in your car. They're responsible for your safety while your at work. Then as soon as you drive away, you are responsible for your safety. This allows people the right to defend themselves as soon as they leave work. Good Job Indiana!
