Some consultant read a report about a tabletop exercise from last year where some creative thinking accountant invited to the exercise invented a scenario when a bike was used as a pipe-bomb, stole that idea, wrote it into a finding/recommendation and then the Police Chief, who can't think for himself, took the advice.

CNN reports that a Memphis, Tennessee airport terminal was evacuated over a bicycle with a sticker advertising a Florida punk-folk band.

A pilot alerted airport police when he saw a bike with a sticker that read "this bike is a pipe bomb" parked near the passenger ramps of Terminal C at Memphis International Airport, according to the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.


"Terminal C ticketing and baggage claim at the airport were cleared out," said airport spokesman John Greaud. "A K-9 unit responded and found no explosive materials at the scene."

"This Bike is a Pipe Bomb" is the name of a band based in Pensacola, Florida, and this is not the first time in the band's 12-year history the name has caused a commotion.

In November, the Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg found that he was able to bring all sorts of prohibited items onto a plane and concluded that all the security is just theater.

The American Prospect's Alexandra Gutierrez wonders if "an actual terrorist make TSA's job so easy? I'm going to venture out on a limb here and say no." But it's not the first time the band's stickers have caused trouble.

A bunch of people here (Asheville) got fliers on their cars indicating that they must be moved or they would be towed due to Obama coming to town.
