You, sir, need to go drinking with me and try the beer/liquor I drink. You'll start thinking booze is wonderful. I guarantee it.
    Oooo care to elaborate?
I don't drink the dollar a can swill most college people drink. I drink things like Samuel Smith beers, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Arrogant Bastard Ale, etc., and for liquors, good cognac, good aged scotch, etc.

The basic rule is: if you have to drink a lot of it to forget the taste and get a buzz, it's not worth the money. It's better to aim for the higher end stuff that may or may not give you a buzz (ymmv, I high have a very high tolerance for alcohol so it takes a lot to get me tipsy) but will taste fantastic going down. It's like: why drink Pepsi, which you know tastes bad, when there's Dr. Pepper available. Quality over quantity.
Oh trust me, I'm not in the dollar a can swill that you speak of.

Although I never quite developed a tolerance for cognac, I do enjoy a good scotch with my cigars (which has become a new sunday tradition). My favorite though would definitely be bourbon and vodka. I still haven't been able to try some more of the labels, but Knob Creek and Woodford reserve is quite delicious.

When it comes to beer, I like to try just about everything, but I prefer some of the more interesting imports. Delirium is a moderately decent brewery with some good beers, Samichlaus is pretty awesome too, along with Chimay, and a few other random ones.

When I drink it's for flavor, not quantity.
Trust me when I say that Chimay is so so. There are some beers out there that make it taste like it's budlight or something.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

I would oppose decreasing the drinking age to 18 for non service members because with our youth culture it would just result in more unsafe sex and stupid things in addition to increasing the DUI related accidents and death.

But, if you're in the service, then you should be able to do everything a completely legal adult is able to do - including drinking.
See I grew up in a similar environment where drinking was for the flavor and the differences between the various types of whatever it is my parents were drinking. It was not to get drunk, it was just something that we paired with our dinners. Maybe it's because of this lifestyle that I'm opposed to the 21+ drinking age, but as I search for things I keep finding that most people are not from a similar situation or mindset (although I should have realized that much sooner).
That's you though, but the majority of the youth I've met (and I've met quite a lot) drink cause it's YAY BOOZE OMG FORBIDDEN TOTALLY COOL.

    Re: Drinking Age

    I love to DRINK! :9 :9 :9

I think the legal drinking age should stay as it is...but, I as a parent, would teach my kids about drinking during their teens (not just say no no no never do it, you'll be punished), once in a while sharing glasses of wine, a couple of beers and such. That way they've learned to grow up around that environment and it won't be such a cultural shock when they get to college and can handle the situation at a party or wherever they are.

Yeah, that's definitely true. I generally try to avoid people my age, and most of my friends end up being 5-25 years older than I am, all of whom have a very different mindset than those in their late teens / early 20's. So drinking for me isn't party time, it's enjoy a beer with friends, and have a good conversation. The "YAY BOOZE" people are the ones I avoid, which is probably why I don't really see it / pay as much attention to it.

Find Arrogant Bastard Ale, Ruination IPA, Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, Samuel Smith Nutbrown Ale. Those are good for starters.

I'll have to give them a try when I get the chance.

Oh and have you ever had a Weizenbock or Eisbock?

My friend was telling me about them, and they sound quite interesting. He suggested Aventinas for both varieties, but I figured I'd see what you thought since you are like beer master

    Re: Drinking Age

Know of a few places in Arizona that make their own beer that is supposedly good (parents drink, I haven't yet (except for a cheap shitty wine once))

As for the age, not really sure. I know personally I have a major hatred of drunk drivers, completely piss me off. I know one thing supposedly in parts of Europe is to even get a drivers license is a bitch to begin with. It costs more to take the tests then here (and if you don't pass, have to do it again) and the test themselves are pretty tough. Again only going from what I have heard about in some countries, never been or tried so could be wrong.

2nd, again from hearsay, some European countries have strict drunk driving laws, and supposedly its rare to see people that are drinking driving later on. (different then here where a bunch of fucking idiots decide to try and put my life, people i knows life, other peoples life and their own life in danger because they are fucking stupid assholes)

"B.C. INTRODUCES CANADA’S TOUGHEST IMPAIRED DRIVING LAWS "

    -

    NEWS RELEASE
    For Immediate Release
    2010PSSG0026-000472
    April 27, 2010
Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General

B.C. INTRODUCES CANADA’S TOUGHEST IMPAIRED DRIVING LAWS

VICTORIA – The Province is introducing Canada’s most immediate and severe impaired driving penalties to save lives, curb repeat offenders and give police more enforcement tools, Solicitor General Michael de Jong, QC, announced today.

“Despite increased enforcement and significant efforts to promote awareness, we’ve begun to see a rise in impaired driving across British Columbia,” said de Jong. “That trend is unacceptable and that’s why we’re bringing in these new laws: to get impaired drivers off the road with clear, swift and severe penalties.”

In memory of Alexa Middelaer, de Jong also announced a provincial goal: to reduce alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by 35 per cent by the end of 2013. Middelaer was four when she was killed by an alleged drunk driver in Delta two years ago.

Under changes to the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA), drivers who provide a failing breath sample above 0.08 per cent BAC or refuse to provide a breath sample at the roadside will face an immediate, 90-day driving ban and a $500 fine. As well, they will have their vehicle impounded for 30 days. They may also face criminal charges.

Drivers caught once in the “warn” range (between 0.05 and 0.08 per cent BAC) in a five-year period will face an immediate, three-day driving ban and a $200 fine; a second time, a seven-day ban and a $300 fine; and a third, a 30-day ban and a $400 fine. Research shows that driving with a BAC in that range means a driver is seven times more likely to be in a fatal crash than if they have no alcohol in their body.

In addition, drivers who blow once in the “fail” range, or three times within five years in the “warn” range, will be required to participate in the rehabilitative Responsible Driver Program. They must also use an ignition interlock device, which tests a driver’s breath for alcohol every time they operate their vehicle, for one year.

“B.C.’s measures target impaired drivers more effectively than any Canadian jurisdiction has to date,” said Andrew Murie, CEO of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Canada. “We believe these major, escalating penalties will better support both deterrence and enforcement, save lives and prevent hundreds of injuries each year on B.C.’s roads. We encourage other provinces to study what B.C. is doing and follow its example.”

The new, roadside-issued, 90-day bans mean officers will no longer need to take drivers to the station for a full breath analysis in order to impose a driving ban longer than 24 hours.

“We believe that this new initiative will help all law enforcement officers to apprehend and reduce the number of impaired drivers in our province,” said Insp. Mike Diack of the RCMP’s B.C. Traffic Services. “There are people killed on B.C. highways each year as a direct result of impaired drivers. With additional enforcement powers, our police officers will be better equipped to reduce those casualties. Harm reduction is our number-one priority.”

    http://www.gov.bc.ca/

    Little info about the Premier of BC;

"In January 2003, Campbell was arrested and pled no contest for driving under the influence of alcohol while vacationing in Hawaii. According to court records Campbell's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. As is customary in the United States, Campbell's mugshot was provided to the media by Hawaiian police. The image has proved to be a lasting personal embarrassment, frequently used by detractors and opponents. Campbell was fined $913 (US) and the court ordered him to take part in a substance abuse program, and to be assessed for alcoholism"
