You're right, they don't have to die. This boy did not have to die. So, to save the boy from dying, do we:

a) Not fatally shoot him

No doubt they are ignorant. Probably stupid too... maybe even ugly. Punishable by death? I don't think so. Don't guns furnish non-lethal stopping power?

I don't know the Border Patrol's policies on that. Most agencies, you're allowed to use enough force necessary to apprehend or stop the subject. In other words, you're allowed to use a step above what that subject is using. If he comes at you with just his fists, bust out the pepper spray, baton, mag light.. He comes at you with a gun, knife, pipe, bat, or any other kind of weapon that can do damage, they can pull out their weapon and use it.

I just don't know how they will look at rock throwing. I'm sure they will look at it as a weapon. How big were the rocks? How hard were they throwing them? How many people were throwing rocks? It wasn't just that one boy, it was a group of them.

We are trained to shoot center mass, to stop the threat...We will not attempt to be heroes and aim at the "legs"...

Violent attacks on agents have been on the rise drastically....Good job to him...

Yup, yup. Officers are never trained to take non-lethal shots. It's always center-mass. You shoot till they are no longer a threat.

Sad a boy died, but he was told to stop and they were/are trying to come into the country illegally. Like Hub said it was more than one person and they don't say/show the number of people and size or force of the rocks being thrown.

If this is not the first violent attack, it is probably more so of a reason to act to protect our Border Patrol agents.

Sadly though I think the agent will probably get a lot of crap for doing his job.
