scenerio cops vs armed citizen riot

some think citizens would win i dont think there is anyway this would happen i'll start with the cops since thats whod i'd favor

weapons
ar-15 (not sure if fully auto)
pistol
shotgun
mp5

flash grenade
gas grenade
stingball grenade
mace (differnt from pepper spray)
night stick
taser

training
trained to work as a team/unit
marksmanship

kevlar vest (most likely level 1-2 which will only stop a handgun most likely)

vehicle
armored van
helicopter
sqaud car
possibly APC

citizens
rocks/bricks sticks/bottles

shotgun
pistols
hunting rifles
pipe bombs
molotov cocktail

maybe 1 - 20 would have a fully automatic rifle

training
most likely none i would think a riot/mob would just group with others not to be singled out and not look out for thier fellow rioters

vehicles
cars
trucks
jeeps
bikes
etc

sp anyone feel free to add thoughts on gear/training and whod you think would win

Whats the point to this thread? For starters cops dont care all of that stuff with them all the time. What is the environment we are talking about? Are we placing one of each in a ring and letting them go at it or is there an element of surprise involved? I also think you underestimate civilians. Many have training and weapons. The kevlar vest in a brawl is actually a down side. It's heavy, hot and hard to breath once your pumped up. Sure can take the body shots for you but in a fight for survival your not aiming at the gut. So you need to elaborate on the circumstances involved before anyone can give any kind of answer.

Depends on the citizens. The ones that I know I would bet on them 100% of the time. We shoot on a weekly basis up to 1000 yards. Sporting Clay shooting every Sunday(its our golf). Big city citizens not a chance in hell.

Won't ever happen.

The cops would also have the National Guard on their side AND all of the military personnel. There are MANY bases scattered throughout the country.

Depends, but once it reached a certain point, I would find it hard to believe that the police/National Guard/etc. would stay in their ranks. I think many of them would have a hard time shooting at their fellow citizens.

lets say city buildings rangeing from 1-5 stories tall

and true they dont carry it with them but its at the police station and all they have to do is call in a 10-100 (riot conditions do exist NM 10 codes)

and i think a riot is seldom planed and always a surprise

amd the point just to see what most think i say cops some say citizens

thats where the training kicks in i'd belive also as its been confirmed to me once they will tell you (cop to cop) you bleed blue so assume the same would go for soldiers

yeah but i'm using police force alone as just an example hell here we got the national guard armory min drive from anywhere in my town another one 30 min away (traveling the speed limit of 65mph)
