Immigrant families leave Arizona and tough new law
By Amanda Lee Myers
Associated Press
PHOENIX — "Cuanto?" asks a young man pointing to four bottles of car polish at a recent garage sale in an east Phoenix neighborhood.
The question, Spanish for "How much?" sends Minerva Ruiz and Claudia Suriano scrambling and calling out to their friend, Silvia Arias, who's selling the polish. "Silvia!"
Arias is out of earshot, so Suriano improvises.
"Cinco dolares," she says. "Five dollars." And another sale is made.
As the women await their next customer in the rising heat of an Arizona morning, they talk quietly about food and clothes, about their children and husbands. They are best friends, all mothers who are viewed as pillars of parental support at the neighborhood elementary school.
All three are illegal immigrants from Mexico.

If these people have been living here for so long, why have they not applied for US Citizenship? Is it really that hard to do? It can't be more expensive than paying someone to get you across the border could it?
I just don't understand it.
And if they are here legally they shouldn't have anything to worry about. I guess it just goes to show how many illegal immigrants we do have though.

See that's what's messed up, instead of filing the papers to become legal immigrants, they rather move to a state where they're "safe". THAT"S BULLSHIT! Fill the papers out, pay taxes or GTFO!
Christ almighty...both sets of my grandparents did.Last edited by K0nTANK3Rous; 06-21-10 at 01:48 PM.

+1
some of you make it seem like they all do it on purpose to duck taxes.. like much of us try to do.
No, the process is extremely long and expensive like persian said. Also, coming from a country of poverty like Mexico, many people that cross for various reasons and many can't afford citizen ship or else they would. Not saying that it's right to cross illegally but still, you guys make it sound so easy.
Now imo, I think they should make it easier to become citizens since one we have the NAFTA so I think people should be able to come and go. Two, we can't keep them out anyways, so many by lowering the cost towards citizen ship we can get more out of it.

I'm not saying it is easy. So it's not necessary for you to place words in my "mouth". I have had plenty friends, family, and co-workers go through the process. I know it's long, but if you want to be here that bad, deal with it, or deal with getting your ass out of this country until you want to do your part in the process. You people need to quit making excuses and making it "ok" for illegals to remain, but then complain about welfare costs, taxes, shitty healthcare costs, etc.
Furthermore...if our gov't would get off it's ass and do some reconstruction work on shit that's obviously broken, i'm sure there are ways to streamline the immigration process without making it just OPEN for everyone. But no one like to piss off the immigrants, legal or illegal, cause those are votes, and whoever carries that base of voters would just assume to leave it to the next guy.Last edited by K0nTANK3Rous; 06-21-10 at 02:40 PM.

LOL yea ok toker.
I guess this law works and we should not ask any questions!
100% of the illegals are running for the state borders.......yea no.
There might be 3 people that leave here and there but your problem is not going to go away with some baloney law. Plus from what I hear skeletor (your governor) is shaking in her prissy boots because the Feds are coming to overturn some laws.
