So you're saying the Spanish co. is going to build it for free. It's not a loan it's a loan guarantee that if said co. re-negs the gov. assumes the loan. I think it's a huge biggie, if gov. is going to back loans it should be American companies period and not enough information is exactly right. The idea that : The plant will create tax income for local communities and the state over the life of the project. Abengoa Solar signed a power purchase agreement with APS, the state’s largest electric utility, to sell the energy produced by Solana for a period of 30 years.
I don't like it has a bad smell to me it just doesn't feel right somehow. http://www.elp.com/index/display/art...goa_Solar.html

Re: Government Spending? Waste not, want not? YouCut program...
Recieved this email from my grandma...
Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.
This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by
using a Q & A format:
Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment ?
It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q. Where will the government get this money ?
From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ?
A. Only a smidgen of it.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment ?
A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a
high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.
Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:
If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka .
If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.
If you purchase a computer, it will go to India, Taiwan or China .
If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico ,
Honduras and Guatemala ..
If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea .
If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan .
If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.
Instead, keep the money in America by:
1) Spending it at yard sales, or
2) Going to ball games, or
3) Spending it on prostitutes, or
4) Beer or
5) Tattoos.
(These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S.)
Conclusion:
Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard
sale and drink beer all day !
No need to thank me, I'm just glad I could be of help.

Re: Government Spending? Waste not, want not? YouCut program...
It's important to look at their fiscal policies and the situations they inherited. Bush was following Reagan's policy of deficit spending. Cut taxes while increasing spending. If you take a pay cut at work, are you going to buy more expensive stuff? No, but that was Bush's policy. Once the he started the wars, he should have raised taxes, but he and the Republican party didn't because that would have been bad for them politically. Remember, at this point we are also not in a recession and when Bush took over, we were running budget surpluses, so we took a massive hit on the national debt. Obama took over in the midst of a deep recession, and the best way to get out is to spend. This is where you should be spending the surpluses you save up doing the good years to pay your way out of the bad ones, but that never happened, so we are forced to add more to the debt.
Cutting spending during a recession is the worst possible thing you can do. It will slow the recovery and prolong the downturn. That's how we got out of the Great Depression. FDR started spending, and eventually the massive spending from WW2 got us out. One thing to note from that period, too, is that when FDR cut spending in 1937, the economy started to tank again before the spending was re-upped. "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Did I say that caused the recession? No, I didn't. I said it was bad economic policy and the major reason we have the debt we have today.
Yes, it is "good" when you spend during a recession because that is how you recover quicker. It injects capital into the system. Cutting spending and reducing taxes during a recession hurts the recovery and, by extension, the people. Yeah, I get it, complaining about government spending is the chic thing to do right now. But it's not based on fact an it's bad economic policy.

I wouldn't trust the American people to know what programs to cut, unless we subsidize millions of people doing hours and hours of research to determine the best cuts (which would be more wasteful government spending zomg). If we had the balls to say "let's go make some cuts" then I'd rather someone who knew what was going on and was a veteran program manager or administrator figured out what programs we could spare, rather than "Will of the mob" who are easily swayed by the likes of Keith Olbermann, Glenn Beck, talk radio, and other vapid, ill-informing time-wasters.

based on what theory of economics? Please cite as accurately as possible, please. You made a statement and I'd like to hold you to a burden of proof.
The best way out of a recession is for the government to spend.
Try to avoid posting wiki articles. I want it explained in your own words.

Re: Government Spending? Waste not, want not? YouCut program...
And where, prey-tell did the magical government mothership get this newly injected capital? Ahh, right...they took it from us and the businesses we own and the investments we make and the phone bills we pay and the mortgages we pay and the goods we purchase. Government produces nothing. They absorb from the citizens and spend what they want to on themselves, then "stimulate" us with scraps.
Fuck the government...

We didn't vote the people in office now just so they could say it was not there fault, but someone else. You pay/vote people to fix the problem, not sit there and say it's not my fault. So gov't get fixing it.
Another thing, I'm sick of everyone talking about president's current and past. Quit turning this into a debate about parties, they both got us there.
Oh, and about this money thing, let me simplify it for you. Just look at an example: you're in debt to the tune of 1/2 of x you make a year. Instead of cutting back that year and paying your debt back, you say I need to spend more to get out of debt. So, you go out and spend 5 times the amount you make in one year hoping that the money you just spent will get you out of debt.
Now honestly would you or any business actually do that? Only the government would come up with that great outrageous idea such as that. The gov't won't pay the piper, you will.
