Congress halts aid to Lebanese army

WASHINGTON – The US Congress is blocking funding to the Lebanese military following a cross-border shooting attack on Israeli soldiers last week amidst concern it is cooperating with Hizbullah.
“This incident was tragic and entirely avoidable,” Rep. Nita Lowey (D-New York) said Monday. “US assistance is intended to enhance our safety and that of our allies.”
Similarly, House Foreign Affairs Chairman Howard Berman (D-California) also applied a hold, citing more general concerns about “reported Hizbullah influence on the Lebanese Armed Forces.”
“Until we know more about this incident and the nature of Hizbullah influence on the LAF – and can assure that the LAF is a responsible actor – I cannot in good conscience allow the United States to continue sending weapons to Lebanon,” Berman said.

We should have stopped this funding long before this.......

Why would we make such a stupid move..... They are like our brother over there keeping stability and peace in the area and not letting anybody will Mal intentions grow in it....

They are our allies and assist us in what is good for us all. They fight terrorism on a daily basis. Surely, you support fighting terrorism and peace for all, or are you one of those prejudice people that hates certain races, color, or background?

They fight their own war on a daily basis, it has nothing to do with terrorism, and nothing to do with us, except that we fund it. The one time that we've fought a war against the terrorists who attacked us, Israel didn't come. Even France joined us, but Israel didn't come.

Israel does nothing for us.

Keeping peace and stability?! What are you on? They are one of the big reasons for instability in the region. Our blind support for Israel has made us LESS safe and caused more people to hate us. The atrocities they commit against the Palestinian people can be classified as terrorism itself, so don't try and pretend Israel is some benevolent, peace-loving country. I do support peace for all, which is why I don't blindly support Israel.

So why didn't they join the 'coalition of the willing' in Iraq and Afghanistan? Where's their contingent of troops?

Didn't need them. They bombed Iraqi nuclear reactors for us. They bombed Syria nuclear reactors. They bombed a weapons convoy heading from Africa going to the hands of Hezbollah not long ago. They are the top terrorist hunters in the world.

They have their hands full defending themselves against Hamas, Hezbolla, the Syrians, and the Iranians. They are not cowards, they Fight.....

By the way, how many troops does France have in Afghanistan?
