Read way to many articles to the contrary which included the home page for the building that said your wrong on the opening day. I even pointed out in several other threads that the reality of actually accomplishing that particular goal while dealing with construction companies was damn near impossible.

That's because they were never trying to accomplish opening on 9/11/11. Why would they try and do something they know is impossible? I don't care how many articles you read that said it was opening on 9/11/11, that doesn't make it true. A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth even puts its boots on. A lie can get picked up and repeated in many articles, and if you repeat something enough, people begin to believe it is the truth. Imam Rauf specifically said it would not, and I'm more inclined to believe him than the irrational fearmongers.

Rauf said the mosque will not open on the anniversary of 9/11, and that it will take between 18 months and three years before the money is raised to open the center at the old Burlington Coat Factory building on Park Place, which was damaged on 9/11. Rauf said the building will either be demolished, or renovated depending on a pending landmark status application.

Point blank, it was never intended to open on 9/11/11. That was pushed by people opposed to the center to invent a false image of what the center is intended to be. To go from flimsy speculation about a possible time for groundbreaking a year and a half into the future to saying the place will open on 9/11/11 is more than a "misstatement," it's a lie. A lie that was used to drum up more opposition. Not only that, but you are assuming that even if they were planning on groundbreaking around 9/11, that they were doing it for nefarious reasons. There is nothing to support that, either.

I'd call it semantics more than an outright lie IMO (and again, I didn't and don't have a prob with the mosque there). I'd hardly say that it was "flimsy speculation" though if the wife of the head guy is stating intentions of possibly breaking ground on the 10th anniversary.

We can argue back and forth all day and give sources at the same time. Its the internet and regardless what side your on you can provide sources that state the oposite. So my last comment on this particular issue is very simple. Some in your eyes and even in reality will say the ground breaking or doors opening on 9-11 are for nefarious reasons but they, you, and myself can not provide actual proof of intentions that it was or was not for a specific reason. So getting all wound up about wont change the fact we dont know the reason.

well 9/11 is around ramadan anyway, so it's like trying to say that vietnamese military exercises held in January must be celebrating the Tet Offensive instead of vietnamese new year...
