An appeals court in the United States has suspended a ban imposed last month on federally-funded research involving embryonic stem cells.
The court in Washington placed a temporary stay on an earlier decision by US District Judge Royce Lamberth.
Judge Lamberth ruled that the research violated US law because it involved destroying human embryos

Re: Stem Cell Ban "stayed"
fucking stupid. Governmental intervention and its rules and regulations does nothing but prohibit progress in science.
Whos to say the cure for cancer does not lie in stem cells? Its actually the place i would go looking for one... It makes sense?
Pfft all we care about is making bigger, thinner televisions.

Re: Stem Cell Ban "stayed"
The problem we have with embryonic stem cells right now is that although they have the potential to specialize into any type of cell desired, they have a tendency to grow uncontrollably thus cancelling out any benefits. However with additional research this problem should be overcome eventually. Of course, they could also increase funding for research into adult stem cells (this is what I'm for) which avoids the moral and ethical complications as well the tumor problem. They've also shown promise with inducing them to go into a pluripotent stage, but that carries the same problems as the embryonic type.

What is the difference between IVF and Stem Cell embryo cultivation/destruction? None right? Other than the amount that you create/destroy?
This is obviously a bit different than partial birth abortions, although that may be content for another thread all together.Last edited by Muqtar SGT_Clintok; 09-10-10 at 06:04 AM.

Re: Stem Cell Ban "stayed"
to be honest, i'm not completely sure where i stand on stem cells....on one hand, it has the potential to save and improve the lives of countless people....but on the other, what if it's too expensive for the poor? the rich live longer while the poor die? third world countries probably wouldn't be able to afford it. how about overpopulation? with this technology we potentially have the power to save million of lives that would have otherwise been snuffed out...AND prolong the lives on million others...can our planet sustain this? but obviously these are all long term problems...
head to head, chest to chest, which country is the very best? and in the land of rape and honey, you pray.
