While in theory I agree in reality I understand that a vast majority of the goods we consume are imported. What happens when the main countries we import from, say China, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, and some South American countries see this taxation and then in crease taxation/tarrifs/costs on the goods we import from them thus making "necessities" even more expensive in a tough economy? As I said, this is one type of taxation that I do not oppose, I just think we need to think it through a bit before jumping in to make sure we plan for the ramifications.

Well, the goal is to have fewer imported goods, so that would hardly be a bad thing. Everything that we make in the US instead of importing is another US job saved. In general, it's more beneficial for a country to have a high export/import ratio of manufactured goods.

I agree totally, but check the ratio of importing to exporting today, and we are WAY off balance. Many of the things we need on a daily basis are not grown/manufactured here in the states by any company. There needs to be a gradual progression back to manufacturing to avoid furthering the recession. I am totally for brining jobs back to America, but I don't think the country would survive a quick jump in costs of 20-50% on common goods.
