Health care bill doesn't go far enough
AP Poll: Many think health overhaul should do more - Yahoo! News
Contrary to what the teabaggers and repubs have been saying, it seems that the majority of Americans think that the health care bill doesn't go far enough.
I agree.

Re: Health care bill doesn't go far enough
I don't understand why its so hard to understand that people that grow up in a poor neighborhood, attend a terrible school, and are surrounded by a culture of easy money through illegal activities will not have much of a chance to get a good job and be able to afford health insurance/care...

Re: Health care bill doesn't go far enough
I think the issue is that people feel that the money that is already used to fund programs to help people is abused by said people. (not all, but enough to make the whole "shabang" look negative). And to be honest, I don't trust this administration (or any of the past one's for that matter) to run it efficiently. It's going to be just as busted as social security in the future, but then some other idiot will come along saying we need it, and we will be taxed even more to fund it and keep it alive otherwise people won't have healthcare at all.
I'm just curious who's going to get the blame if and when this all goes through and it crashes later down the road.

And money, free healthcare, government assistance isn't going to change that.... when will people understand this...... this entire country needs to stop acting like everyone will suddenly reverse generations of poor decisions because the government is going to give out free healthcare.....
How about we fix the root of the problem instead of treating the symptoms...

Re: Health care bill doesn't go far enough
Well, as the only industrialized nation that doesn't have 'socialized' healthcare, we pay more and receive less care. This seems like a no-brainer; adopt strategies that work.
And when/if the current plan fails, it will be because it didn't go far enough, not because it was too liberal. The system need a complete over-haul.
Fix the root of the problem? I would agree with that. Lets pump money into school systems, especially science and math departments, and then lets not base money given on property tax, but with an equal distribution. And lets also raise the national minimum wage so that it corresponds to something that some one can actually live off of. San Fransisco has it right, they mandate that all city contracted workers receive no less than $21 (or 22, its around there) per hour. Obviously, SF is an expensive city to live in, so the national wouldn't have to be that high.
That would fix the root of the problem, and then maybe people wouldn't be so poor and shackled in debt that they would actually come to the polls and vote, instead of the people who naturally have more free time; the wealthy and old.Last edited by Madmax (Grape); 09-26-10 at 04:15 AM.

Re: Health care bill doesn't go far enough
That may help on the way to the solution, but I gotta be honest, in my neck of the woods, it's simply part of the culture to grow up on government programs. It's almost like it's built in. Louisiana gives out free college tuition, and all you have to do is basically make a 2.5 GPA (possibly lower). Free public elementary eduction, free public high school education, and basically free college tuition (here in Louisiana), and yet so many people here still don't do anything with their lives..... I hardly see how throwing any more programs or money at the problem would help. And it is for this reason, I often refuse to believe that people will just simply change because of government programs, cheaper education, cheaper healthcare, cheaper __________.
Not to mention how many people I see checking out at the grocery store with their food stamps, but then walk outside to load them up in their new Nissan Maxima or SUV. Priorities are out of whack.
This is why I don't exactly sympathize with the "poor", b/c they aren't the little innocent angels everyone makes them out to be. They know how to work the system inside and out. I know everyone isn't like that, but where I'm from it's the norm, and thus it's all I've seen.Last edited by rock_lobster; 09-26-10 at 04:25 AM.
