Times Square bomb plotter sentenced to life in prison
At a previous court appearance, Faisal Shahzad said he considered himself "a Muslim soldier"
The man convicted of an attempted car bomb attack in New York's Times Square has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Faisal Shahzad pleaded guilty in June to 10 weapons and terrorism charges.
At his sentencing in Manhattan, Shahzad told the judge "war with the Muslims has just begun", with the US facing "imminent" defeat.
TIMES SQUARE BOMB PLOT
Explosives packed into the vehicle on 1 May failed to detonate and Shahzad was arrested two days later.
In the courtroom in lower Manhattan on Tuesday, about 2.5 miles (4km) south of Times Square, Shahzad warned Americans to "brace themselves" for a war with Islam.
"We don't accept your democracy or your freedom," he said, adding that he rejected the court's authority because "Muslims don't abide by human laws".
Giving Shahzad a mandatory life sentence, Judge Miriam Cedarbaum asked if he had sworn allegiance to the US when he took the oath of citizenship in April last year.
"I did swear but I did not mean it," Shahzad replied.
The swift proceedings were over in less than 30 minutes. Shahzad, handcuffed, was led out of the courtroom, his head held high.
He is also said to have received about $5,000 in cash from a co-conspirator in Pakistan, who he understood worked for the Taliban.

Commander, I think most people here already believe we have home grown terrorists. You'll probably enjoy this series: YouTube - BBC - Generation Jihad - Ep1 - (Part 1 of 6) It'll take a while to get through all 3 episodes, but they are eye opening as to how home grown terrorists are made.
The gist of it is that you have a young generation of Muslims meeting on the internet indoctrinating other young Muslims into the Jihad belief system. They're doing it so effectively that Al Qaeda doesn't really bother doing it themselves.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Don't confuse issues. This guy was a US Citizen arrested by Federal law enforcement in an airport within the USA.
The people you are eye-rolling about were enemy combatants/terrorists captured by military personnel on foreign soil.
Which of these two groups does the US Justice System apply to?Last edited by Consultant; 10-06-10 at 07:53 AM.

Different case, same concept.
Judge bars key witness from Gitmo detainee's trial - Yahoo! News
NEW YORK – The judge in the first civilian trial of a Guantanamo Bay detainee barred the prosecution's star witness Wednesday from testifying, dealing a major setback to the government's effort to build criminal cases with evidence obtained through harsh CIA interrogations overseas.
The ruling stunned prosecutors, who asked for and received an immediate delay in the case while they decide whether to appeal. It also re-energized the debate over whether terrorism suspects captured overseas should be prosecuted in civilian courts and whether the American justice system is up to the task.
Michael Farkas, a former Army judge advocate and now a civilian attorney, said the ruling shows why those backing military tribunals for Guantanamo detainees contend that "civilian criminal courts are no place for war criminals." He said the military rules of evidence do not give defendants some of the protections they are afforded in the civilian justice system.
"In a military tribunal, this witness would not have been precluded," Farkas said.
