Thread: Merkel says German multi-cultural society has failed

There are a lot of Muslims here. But they do not seem any dumber than us Americans that are here. Some of the Muslims here are Americans. I guess they get a double-helping of stupid?

IMO, I'd bet they just seem to "make the country stupid" because many of the "smart Germans" are moving out of the country, so the stupid become obvious. Just guessing on a possible reason though, I don't know enough about the rate of emigration (I think that is the one for people leaving the country right?)

It has nothing to do with intelligence. It has to do with integration. I know many Turks who were born and raised in Germany yet still have an accent. Figure that out. Germans want to keep their culture and I see nothing wrong with that. They are very accepting of others when people respect their way of life. It's a good one by the way.

I don't think the comparison works to the same degree that it does in Europe. The reason I say this is that in each country in Europe the culture is pretty well defined. Where as in the US it really is a melting pot. There is no one culture that exists like it does in the different European countries. That being said, I do believe that if someone wishes to become a citizen of another country, they should have to pass a language test for that country.

She was talking about immigrants like they're a disease...something like "We fooled ourselves for a while thinking they wouldn't stay but now they have..." yeesh!

The point she makes about integration is key...thats what many people are arguing against our own immigration issues with the southern border. There is very little attempt to integrate into the broader american culture. Many of our southern border towns are like anexes of mexico. Interesting stuff.

"Melting pot" is a bad description...the most influential teacher I ever had, my high school government teacher used "chef's salad" to describe us...melting pots swirl together and homogenize and lose individuality to make something new. A chef's salad, as a whole, is a unified creation comprised of individual parts that maintain their full flavor and unique characteristics. Go to Laredo Texas and tell me it's an American melting pot. Go to the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans and tell me about the American melting pot. Maybe....Rhode Island....or Utah....nah. No melting pot there.

At least, that's what I observe.
