The Europeans may have a chilled out lifestyle, but some days I would really appreciate a little capitalism around here. Their lack of competition often leads to customer service that leaves a lot to be desired. Today I would have killed for a Discount Tire around here. Most German consumers just do not know any better I guess.

The lack of customer service in Germany has nothing to do with competition. Germans value competent service and good products much more than being treated royally. It irked me when I first came over but with time I got used to it. If you're looking for love with that brotchen, you're going home unsatisfied.

Really, I just wanted my tire fixed or replaced today so I could actually use the car. I went to 4 tire shops today. All told me they were by appointment only and were booked until next week. At no shop did I see another customer nor did I see any work being done. I only saw a bunch of tire guys drinking coffee. I have been here three years now and I had gotten used to poor service in general, but this was a whole new level. I do not ask to be treated royally, just put the damn tire on and let me pay for the tire and the service. grrrr.... Any other week, I would have been able to make due with the public transportation, but this week, I actually have to have the car. I will be in the USA next week. I will eat out, get good service and good food for a decent price, buy some things that are not easily obtainable over here, and unleash my true consumerism on a place that is prepared for it. Then I will come back here and have a yummy schnitzel and bier and my consumerism will be sated for a bit.

They will put your tire on with no appointment. They have served me well anytime I needed them.
