same company, Heidelberg store, yesterday. Just like all the other tire places, they were booked. No matter, I settled with the German mechanic that had my third car (we were disputing some of the unauthorized repairs he performed) and am on my merry way with my appointment for the tire next week in hand for the car that needs it.

I've never had a problem getting auto repair service in Germany. I'll bet if we called ATU together, you wouldn't either.

me neither. In fact the mechanic I use is awesome at fixing cars. I have used him many times and even bought a car from him once. But he and I had a disagreement over what I said I wanted fixed. No really biggie, it was only 750 euros. I have cooled off somewhat on the tire thing. It is a result of the demand temporarily exceeding the supply. Everyone is switching out their summer tires for their winter tires. That they were in no hurry to get to the end of their list was the most irksome thing.

People still put winter tires on their cars?

I think he was commenting moreso on the lack of competition affecting quality of service.

And this is not true. There's just as much selection as you would find anywhere.

As far as quality goes, this is Germany, it doesn't get better than this.
