Health care bill starting to show its true colors.

"Two provisions in the new law are leading companies to look at their plans in a different light.

One is a hefty tax on high-cost health insurance aimed at the most generous coverage. Although the "Cadillac tax" doesn't hit until 2018, companies may have to disclose their exposure to investors well before that. Karen Forte, a Boeing spokeswoman, said concerns about the tax were partly behind a 50 percent increase in insurance deductibles the company just announced.

Bredesen said last week that employers could save big money by dropping their health plans and sending workers to buy coverage in the exchange. They'd face a fine of $2,000 per worker, but that's still way less than the cost of providing health insurance. Employers could even afford to give workers a raise and still come out ahead, Bredesen wrote in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece."

Will New Health Care Law Put Job-Based Coverage at Risk?

How long until they start trying to cover their tracks on this abomination of a law?

I would be willing to welcome 1950's, the state of the country from economic standpoint then the one were digging ourselves out of.

If a company has the welfare of their employees in mind, the safety of their products and services they offer to the average consumer then making money shouldn't be hard to do.

But instead most companies today have CEO's and corporate management worrying about how much they are going to get paid, who's job the can cut and outsource and what corners can they cut to keep earnings high.

If the gov't somehow mandated CEO's pay could not say exceed 10 million dollars and other executives to say 2.5 to 5 million dollars a year. Things like how much a company pay's for healthcare, being able to hire to new workers and turn a profit would not be so challenging.

Instead you got CEO's pulling in 20 million just for leaving a company.

I mean if you, me or someone else leaves a company. We dont get 20 grand for leaving. We get our last pay and thats it.

This is bullshit. Who are the employees that get these' Cadillac' plans? Top executives, that's who.

You think these companies are going to stop offering this to their top people? Put that bottle down.

Plus, this report is nothing but here say. There's nothing definitive in this article. We'll have to wait until 2018 and then we can start making judgements.

What more proof do you need then major corps talking about dumping their health care plans because of the new laws? Your idea of wait and see will cost millions of people. A better plan would be start addressing the issues prior to them taking effect.

Not that i dont agree with your logic but it is not the governments place to step in on pay. That is something that each company needs to do on their own but i dont see anything changes seeing as the ones that would make the call are the ones recieving those benefits.

They're getting pissy about an unknown, that's why they talk about having 'meetings'.

I don't have any sympathy for these major companies that earn billions. If they don't care enough for their employees, then we'll just have to make them.

Companies here in Europe do this very thing and they aint dying. These US companies just need to suck it up and quit whining.

These companies are given the privilege to operate in 'our' country. This privilege comes with an obligation to offer a suitable work environment for those that 'allow' your business to operate.

A suitable work environment has nothing to do with health care nor does it have anything to do with ceo's being given benefit packages apon leaving the company.

Whats unknown? Did you read the article? There is a 2000 dollar fine for not providing health care coverage in the new law. That is fact. It costs companies more then 2000 dollars per employee to keep said coverage. Also fact. You dont have to be a math wizard to figure out 2000 is less then over 2000 per year. Yes that is one of the reasons they are having these meeting but if you read the article then you know the general consensious of those businesses in those meeting.

What does the earnings of a business have to do with what is being discussed? Im pretty sure none of them are looking for your sympathy. They are discussing basic facts about what will cost the company less. Of which should not matter because we are all going to be covered under Obama care right? So basically its not saying that a company doesn't care for its employees but more to the line of if they are going to have coverage anyway then why spend the money on a seperate plan.
