It allowed Conservatives to run on a message of no, as there wasn't much in terms of a substantive platform other than look at what the Dems are doing to our country.

    And here we sit.
The Dems paid attention during 2006 and 2008, and they did exactly what they said they would. And you know what? They got stuff passed. The Republicans ran on obstruction and contributed nothing to the conversation, and that probably helped them. They chose politics over the well-being of the country when they chose to oppose everything and offer nothing. Now, with power in the House, they have to actually come up with stuff and solutions. Will they? I won't hold my breath...

It is what it is. Democrats lost the message war because they let the Republicans frame the debate and the media made no effort to put out the facts and debunk the falsehoods. Taking that into account, while they were very legislatively successful, the bills left a lot to be desired from liberals. So you had one fired up base going against one that wasn't very excited. Young and minority voters don't turn out as much during midterms, either. I still think we have to wait until 2012 to really see what this election means in the bigger picture. Will this be a 1994 election, which gives the Republicans extended control of Congress, or will it be like 1946, which would lead to a generation of Democratic control? Only time will tell...

My guess is it's more like 1978 than 1946.

It's been 2 years, and in your eyes Obama is still batting 1.000, so as long as you continue to toe that line I am sure everyone else on the other side will as well.

Civil folks in congress don't give a fuck about you, me or the guy next door.

The care about 2 things. The power and the money aka kickbacks.

    Plain and simple.

There is no different between congress and say the NFL or MLB.

They get a contract, the get a set pay, the get "endorsement" deals to help them get richer and generally have some basic performance stats to make.

I was liking what I was hearing from the new GOP speaker until he starting rattling on the party line about repealing obamacare as a first order of business.

That's just not going to happen, the GOP better address realistic goals or its going to be a wasteful 2 more years of the same.

To be brutally honest I highly doubt the Republicans have a plan. I hate both parties, but I like the Democrats even less. The Tea Party has very sympathetic goals but are allowing themselves to be led by batshit crazy people like Beck and Palin. Digital's right - who spends millions and millions of dollars (out of their own pockets even) for one seat in Congress? Money, money, money. And the Dems are no different.
