    The war on Christmas

Does anyone else not get why it is such a big deal to have retailers focusing solely on Christmas in advertising etc.? Christmas is basically a pagan holiday, having nothing to do with the birth of Christ (very unlikely it would of happened in December), and even if it did, people (i.e. the AFA) is bitching because retailers aren't saying "merry christmas" when you finish buying 100s of dollars of gifts, to somehow celebrate Jesus.

I get to be a spelling nazi lol. Its Merry Christmas. Personally i dont give a damn about the whole season so them not saying anything doesn't bother me.

I always cringed a bit when I heard employees in retailers saying Merry X-Mas..... I think saying Happy Holidays is a much better approach in general....

Here in Germany, Christmas is a VERY big deal. Many, many towns stand up open markets and sell all manner of handcrafted stuff, drinks, food, and it is a huge almost month long celebration. There is music and dancing and ice skating. It is a lot of fun, even if you are not a Christian. I am totally in love with the hot hard apple-cider they sell at every other stand.
    Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

    Re: The war on Christmas

As Toker said, I think "Happy Holidays" is a better approach. "X-mas" just seems like a blatant poke at the religious folk. As far as society today and its reception, I think people put far too much drama into calling it a "War on Christmas."

As a Christian, I know some people (most people) don't believe the same things I do; so how could I possibly expect you to live by my beliefs? If I choose to celebrate something on a certain day; it'd be ignorant for me to expect someone to do the same when they don't have the same beliefs or lifestyles.

If someone is sincerely wishing me happiness/merriness I personally don't give a shit what religious/non-religious saying they say. I appreciate it either way.

    Re: The war on Christmas

Off topic, but I recently walked past a bunch of advent calendars and remembered how much I loved them as a kid. A new Christmas ornament or piece of chocolate or whatever every day! Can't beat that...
