Interesting. Some will point to car insurance being required but that comparison doesnt hold water. I think there has to be a way to improve health (disease) care for the masses without dramatic government takeovers and single-payer systems. For millions of Americans the system works great, but that doesnt excuse it for the millions that the system is not working great.

I know this much...we just renewed our coverage at our business and my monthly premium went from 610 for a family to 990. I'm spending almost a thousand dollars a month for a Blue Cross & Blue Shield policy. That's insane. What happened to prices going down? Oh right...they have to cover every pre-existing condition now. So literally, we all pay for it.

Tough stuff, but I dont think the Feds have the answers...no way.

I don't know that it works "great" for those who have it. We still pay twice as much as most nations with similar levels of healthiness.

Glad I'm not the only whos rates went up. Getting less coverage, higher out of pocket max. And the rates went up. The next level plan is ridiculously expensive. $1600 more a year and the only major change is a $2000 difference in max out of pocket. If you hit max out of pocket every year you save $400 otherwise you lose $1600.

The asnwer is there and always has been. They can do exactly what they have done to many other companies and put a cap on what can be charged for product or services rendered. See blockbuster, loans, credit cards, and so on for examples.

I'm just saying, I'm sure many folks have been happy with the way their plans work. Back when mine was $300 a month and I didn't have any kids, I was totally happy with it.

What's the alternative? They take 10 or 15% more of my income to fund a federal system that gives me the quality of care parallel to the VA? Pass. Like i said, there has to be a solution, and I never claimed the system is all that great, but that it IS working for millions of Americans, and right after that I said that it WASN'T working for millions of Americans. Don't try to wiggle me into a corner...you're not that slick.

My rate was going to go up, but I switched to a High Deductible Health Care plan.

Screw paying a dime out of pocket to the insurance companies. All my preventative care is covered 100% and my out of pocket cap is not all that much higher than what my going rate was going to be on CIGNA otherwise.

Not like I really go to the doctor anyways.

Because the health care system has been fucking us with rates for everything they do for decades. So people renig on the bill because they could have bought a box of band aids for less then the one that the doctor/nurse put on. That money is considered a loss and has to made up elsewhere. Hospitals are not stupid they know they can run a battery of tests and bill your insurance out the ass to recoup some of those lost funds and your stuck in the middle getting fucked from both ends.

Then, why isn't anything being done about it? Why aren't the glorious champions of the people (the Repubs and Dems both call themselves that) doing anything about it?
