No, it's you who's confusing correlation with causation. I didn't say "causation," I said "correlation," and the article is careful to point out that correlation != causation.

I think that the McCain thing was just a joke - this article compares death by guns to geographic regions, and the "red" states tend to have higher rates of gun death. I, personally, find the negative correlates more interesting.

Knife murder rates:
US 7.7 per million
UK 4.35 per million

So what was your point? That the lack of gun murders in the UK drives up the relative portions of non-handgun murders?
