Has anyone looked at these bills? They're quite frankly disgusting me, especially the "forcible" rape bit.

The video in there sums up my thoughts. I know the site has some bias, but watch the video.

Preventing life saving abortions is ridiculous no matter where you fall on the issue of abortion.

Personally, I'm not a fan of it, unless it is to save the life of the mother or in cases of incest and such. (but that's for another thread.)

I mean, we always bitch about having to cover people who don't have insurance, with all this talk of cheaper healthcare and the public option, why not have it covered with that?

Ok finally got the video to load.

Coming from a religious background, even I find this to be idiotic. While I hate to see a life lost just because some idiot couldn't keep his c*ck in his pants, you have to meet people half way if you hope to get anything done.

Its even more stupid than that..... you don't have to keep your c*ck in your pants at all, you can go around having sex with anyone you want if you use protection or if the woman uses birth control. I hate to see a life lost because of idiot people that did not take the necessary precautions to not get pregnant in the first place. If you don't want to have a child but want to have sex, then use a condom or other form of birth control. As far as the bill goes, are they serious? If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant she has every right to have an abortion.

Well right, I agree completely. I was talking specifically about rape. Believe me, in my mind, if you're responsible enough to have sex, then you're responsible enough to know how to use birth control and if you don't use it, you're responsible enough to accept the consequences of your actions or lack thereof.

But as for cases to save the life of the mother, I can definitely say I personally am ok with abortions being performed with federal funding (or even via your own insurance)

I completely agree with that and I bet if we did a poll the American people would overwhelmingly agree with that as well. I'm catholic but I don't agree with the catholic church on this one, they believe that abortions should never be done regardless of the situation. We actually had a case here in Arizona where a nun at a catholic hospital approved in abortion because the doctors said that the mother would most likely die if they didn't. The nun approved the abortion and she was excommunicated from the church. (Arizona nun's approval of abortion stirs global debate) If a catholic hospital doesn't wan't to perform a life saving abortion then maybe she shouldn't be a hospital then, or at least woman should not go there to give birth to their children.

Interesting thing about religious run hospitals is they only survive off of tax money, that stupid first amendment thing again. Mormon hospitals have many times refused to perform a hysterectomy on a woman of child bearing years because kemo is still an option . I have a friend that will never be able to have children because she had what was defined as a semi-fallopian tube conception, which means it was possible in some instances for the baby to come to term, it did not and the emergency surgury to repair the trauma left her shy of working parts. Leave it in a doctors hands and niether of these types of situations would occur with such banality. But have one girl out of thousands who has a bad reaction to a HPV inoculation and its a huge issue for every religious group in the us. If this makes you angry make sure you know who your debtor is so your arguments fall on the right ears.
