Re: Can humans be trusted...
hey im not saying i have the answer. I am saying democracy is not heading in the right direction and its time to start looking for another answer. Lets try some alternatives, hell lets try some combination.
But with democracy, youll never be able to switch the goverment to a new forum, without a crescendo event (people every where learn the errors of their ways).

Re: Can humans be trusted...
I don't think that it's democracy (the political system) that is the problem but our economic model (unfettered capitalism) that presents the problem. All European countries are democracies yet they look after their people much better. This comes in the form of taxes, unions, regulations, universal health coverage, etc...

What is your point to this? The information is given and retained plus its spit back in your face thru your entire life. So who is to blame for making bad choices? Only one person can make the decision to make use of the knowledge they have recieved. So it only leaves one person to blame. If you doubt that ask anyone who changed their diet after having a heart attack or a stroke.

Ok, to answer your original question, yes, I do believe people individually generally have an idea what they want. However, as an individual, you have no power or standing to make your desires known nor do you have a chance at even negotiating. Unions and collective bargaining gives power to all the workers to negotiate better wages/benefits/etc. It doesn't give them the right to their demands, but at least it gives them some say in the matter instead of being held hostage by the owners/management. I don't believe people should be treated as cheap, expendable commodities and management treated as kings among men, and that's exactly how they are seen by anti-union and anti-worker people. Honestly, though, a lot of this conflict could be avoided if the government would pass things like universal health care, laws mandating some vacation/sick time, and a living wage.
