Re: One Small Victory
Maybe that's true, but I can't figure out what that has to do with anything in this thread.
I suppose it could be true that Facebook has been a subtle stalking horse for an insidious right-wing agenda from the very beginning. It seems much more likely to me that they're so busy mining data and building commerce-hooks into the site that they're barely able to keep up with the constant process of revising and incrementally improving all the half-assery and ad-hoc-ery that has plagued them from the very beginning. Also, they've had venture capital for a while - which means that if three years ago an engineer went to add Civil Union and Domestic Partnership to the drop-down then they were most likely prevented from changing anything until The Money had made a determination that the timing was good, the wording was correct, and that only the appropriate boats would be rocked.
There is plenty of actual, real, homophobia in the world. Some of it is insidious. If you are in charge of any actual, real, resources that can be used to fight bigotry, then please spend them wisely.
... unless you were joking, in which case; "Ha! Good one."
Cheers,

Re: One Small Victory
Sure you did when you said this...
You took something that had nothing to do with politics what so ever and tried to make it one. Not everything people do is based on party politics and its pretty weak to try and make it about politics every time.

Me too. Whenever I buy a vehicle, either the dealer sticker comes off, or they take $1000 off the price....their choice. I've never had a dealer sticker yet.
And I also think political bumper stickers are lame. I could care less who the idiot next to me in traffic voted for, or what cause they are championing.

Rainbow bumper stickers are not a political statement, any more than having a cross, or an Irish flag on your car is a political statement. Parades and protests may be, but they certainly didn't predate the oppression that they were protesting against. Homophobia is much, much older than any gay rights movement.
I'm sure that if you drove through CA, you'd still be able to find plenty of prop 8 bumper stickers. Certainly, when MA legalized gay marriage, you saw anti-gay rights stickers.
Also, these two sides are hardly equivalent. One side is simply stating, I exist, and I'm not going to hide. They're not trying to do anything that will affect anyone else. On the other hand, the other side's only goal is to force their beliefs onto others.
