03-26-11, 09:38 PM #82So when members of said union are making more than their non-union counterparts, and also receiving better benefits than their non-union counterparts, yet still threaten or go on strike in a weak economy isn't that the same greed you chastise the corporations for? It is a two way street after all.

Oh sure.. but when Mr. CEO of these poor poor corporations suffering in this weak economy give themselves raises and increase their bonus sizes (as Dr.Pepper/Snapple/Motts CEO did, right before telling the workers at the Motts plant here in Rochester, that they had to take pay/benefit cuts because of the economy... by the way, the company saw record profits and isn't feeling hardly any effects of this bad economy), you won't bat an eye. How unfair that the worker who keeps that company running (because it would not otherwise... take the base of the pyramid out, see how well it stands) should expect a good living wage and security.
This is the kick in the ass.. we've been sold the idea that we only deserve the mediocre.. and we bought it. How dare those unions think they can do just a little bit better for their people, and by proxy, you people.

03-27-11, 01:30 AM #86So show me where I stated that the CEOs were without fault, oh, that's right, I didn't. I have stated numerous times that the corporation, executives, investors, AND employees are all trying to get the best deal for themselves. The unions are no different. I am not the one screaming that CEOs are all about the greater good, and have no flaws, like many are about unions. As for the site I linked do you have any evidence their allegations are false? Are you going to try to tell me that everything done by every member of every union is above board? I will take that bet every day, just like I would about every CEO.

SOME Unions have better pay/health-care, but it isn't always the case. I applied and was almost hired by Safeway (union shop) to make minimum wage, part-time, with no benefits. Had a friend get hired by Bashas, part-time as well, I think minimum wage, and at that time (As it was pre-bankruptcy) was getting health coverage, apparently vision and dental included and lifetime membership to the companies credit union.
Who would have got the better deal (well did, sense I ended up at a fast food place instead)?

LOL dont blame me for that stupid name i didnt come up with it. I'm not saying unions are bad. Hell i've been in a union and know first hand there are good and bad with them. I cant say as to what someone outside my profession would make when you compair the two but i can say my yearly income is on average much higher when i am not part of a union.
The reason for that is i get away from the hourly rate and get paid by the foot. So instead of making $35 an hour i average closer to $125 an hour because of the amount of product i can put down. There is cost of working like that though and my back and knees can vouch for that.

Gotta love piece work.. we got pickers on my farm that make way more than I do (I don't make great money, but I do ok) when it's time to pick apples. When they're hourly, it's much different.
But that's the thing about piece work... you could also make much less than the hourly guys, if you didn't work fast.
