    Arizona bullshit letter

I don't know what to laugh at more, the letter or the fact the lead dumbass in our senate (Russell Pierce) seems to actually believe it is true:

Arizona’s Senate president is refusing to apologize to lawmakers who say he circulated a factually suspect letter about Hispanic students during a debate in hopes of getting his immigration bill passed.

The letter that substitute teacher Tony Hill wrote to Sen. Russell Pearce says a majority of the eight-grade students who he taught at an unnamed suburban Glendale school recently refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance and declared that “We are Mexicans and Americans stole our land.”

The letter also says most Hispanic students don’t want to be educated and would rather be gang members.
Arizona Capitol Times » Blog Archive » Pearce refuses to apologize for circulating letter

Apparently even one senator read it out loud during the session, though the article doesn't state if it was read to be used as support for immigration laws or against them.

Still, I have to wonder if our senators are this stupid, how stupid are people actually voting them?

I'll try to find a clip of it later (since they probably won't have it up right away) but Senator Klein, the one who read it on the floor, says she won't apologize for reading the letter because "all the facts need to come out."

Thanks Anthem, we need another idiot in the Arizona government *shakes head*

does it matter, I'll bet not one student in this "subs" class said that, and he is just making up shit.

    Re: Arizona bullshit letter

here is the full letter, I'll be shocked if anyone can say this doesn't sound like a bunch of bullshit:
Teacher's letter to Sen. Russell Pearce

Further, Glendale has no record of this "teacher" ever being a substitute or teaching in their district, and so far none of the other two cities he supposedly subbed in, have found any records either.

Okay....the letter is bullshit, so there’s no point in stating your opinion about something that probably didn't even occur. The letter really sounds like something that was purposely over-exaggerated by someone trying to get their point across. This is done by many people from both the left/right when talking about political issues. Exaggerating the circumstances makes it difficult for the opposition to debate it. It also makes it easier for people with the same point of view to accept it and reinforce their stance on a specific issue. People already strongly in favor of tougher immigration laws will read the letter in question and immediately believe it because it reinforces their point of view. They want to believe it because it makes them feel better by reinforcing the idea that they are correct and they have the right stance on the issue. The problem is that the letter is utter bullshit, saying things like "most of the Hispanic students do not want to be educated but rather be gang members and gangsters" is obviously inaccurate and a is clear attempt to gather more support for his/her stance on the issue by exaggerating or fabricating the circumstances that actually occurred.

So going back to what you originally stated….

Why the hell would I even respond to that statement? I know the letter is fabricated, so why would I even bother debating something that probably didn’t even happen, besides you’re missing the point. The point of the thread is that an Arizona Senator would actually be stupid/arrogant enough to believe and even use a letter to support his point of view when the letter in question contains obvious false information like “Hispanic students do not want to be educated but rather be gang members and gangsters". We both know that statement is bullshit and borderline racist, so why would an elected official use a letter containing that statement in support of his stance on the issue?? That is the point of the thread....whether or not

is irrelevant to the thread. That is why I didn't bother responding to it.

    Riiiiiiight.

I'm not stupid, I know exactly what the letter said. I also know that it is in most likelihood fake. How that means I cannot comment on parts of that letter I fail to understand.

So, by your logic, since it is all a lie, I am not allowed to make any comment of any type whatsoever on it? Grow up. It doesn't matter if the letter itself is legit or not, I can argue/comment any part of it I want, since it does exist in some form and has been used under the guise of being legitimate.

We won the war, got the land, and now they are trying to, according to the statements, "reacquire" it from us. I find those statements stupid and uneducated, whether the people who made those comments are "real" or not.

Now, how about instead of arguing the ethics of whether you can comment on something or not because it isn't true, we get back the actual topic of the thread (which starts from me again after this line).

I doubt it is true in any sense. If there were a bunch of kids who blatantly didn't want to be there, and wanted to be in gangs and not have an education, why did they even bother coming to the classroom? I doubt they would bother at all.
