Man gets 99 years in prison for 16th DWI
Man gets 99 years in prison for 16th DWI - Local News - Houston, TX - msnbc.com
CONROE, Texas — A man got a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of driving while intoxicated for the 16th time.
Montgomery County prosecutors said James Steven Corley, 52, was pulled over for a broken taillight and weaving within his lane in August. It was a felony DWI stop. Prosecutors said Corley's blood alcohol level was .10.
"This defendant is an extremely dangerous driver," Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepramm said. "Practically every time he's getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, according to the testimony, he's driving drunk. He testified that whenever he does it, he doesn't think about anybody who is on the street with him. It's all about him. All about getting drunk."
Corley was sentenced as a habitual offender Wednesday to 99 years in prison. Prosecutors estimate Corley could be up for parole in 10 to 15 years depending on his behavior.

I thought you could only get 3 and then you went to jail? "It sends a very strong message that county juries are not going to tolerate repeat offenders."...You know, but they tolerate the first 15.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Not at all true. You just have to look. Most local papers have a Police and Courts section with a blotter of sorts, you will see one or two on any give day that were arrested, or convicted of driving while under the influence of a controled substance, or just drugs which invariably will include Marijuana. Having known some people busted for driving under the influence of marijuana, their blotter reported "drugs", not MJ specifically.

Yea they really need to change their laws. It really is amazing that he didn't kill anyone. Remember he was caught 16 times, that doesn't mean he only drank alcohol and drove 16 times. The guy has probably done it hundreds of times. Here in Arizona, you get jail time for the 1st one (only 24 hours) (30 days if its an extreme dui .15 or higher) and a couple weeks of probation and 1 year interlock device. If you get 3 within 7 years it is a felony and then you start doing some real prison time which you deserve. Once you get out every dui after that carries long prison sentence. I think its a good law because everyone makes mistakes in their life but if you get 3 dui's in 7 years then you are obviously not learning from your mistakes and you need to be put away before you kill an innocent person. Seriously there is no reason that guy should be out of a jail cell let alone on the road after 15 DUI's.
