    New Wikileaks

US knew Guantanamo detainees were innocent: WikiLeaks - Yahoo! News

If it's true that hundreds of innocents were kept there, I believe some in the armed forces and US government need to be prosecuted.

I don't see any documentation that "States that so and so is innocenet" , however it does state that (2) were innocent and were released. The report, seems to be speculative at best.

And a foot soldier being classified as an enemy combatant, is not a status of innocence.

It's not a report. These are leaked government cables hence the name 'Wikileaks'.

And if the leaks weren't true, the US government wouldn't be prosecuting Bradley Maniing.

"At least 150 Guantanamo detainees were innocent Afghans or Pakistanis, including drivers, farmers and chefs, according to the Telegraph."

    Keep defending the indefensible.

Btw commander, what happened to your thread containing those five different topics? It seemed to magically disappear.

"They were rounded up as part of frantic intelligence-gathering in war zones and then detained at the US naval base in southeastern Cuba for years due to mistaken identity or simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, the British daily said."

You should have finished the quote instead of trying to make it look like it was done on purpose.

There's no justification for rounding up innocent people in a frantic attempt to put them on a plane to be flown half-way around the world to a torture facility. Whether on purpose or due to extreme negligence, it's still wrrong.

    Re: New Wikileaks

im reading through a guardian article on this and thought this little point was interesting

US authorities listed the main Pakistani intelligence service, the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISI), as a terrorist organisation alongside groups such as al-Qaida, Hamas, Hezbollah and Iranian intelligence.
Guantánamo leaks lift lid on world's most controversial prison | World news | The Guardian

i knew we had our suspicions about exactly how "on our side" the pakistani government was but i never realized it was to this point..

also, i dont think anyone can deny that the vast majority of people but in gitmo are and were not a threat to the US/west. many of whom were taken on "evidence" that more or less amounted to being in a certain area at a certain time
i guess what it comes down to is if you thinking indefinitely locking up nearly 800 people hoping to prevent a much smaller group from collaborating with the "enemy"

i personally dont see what gives us the authority to take this extreme better safe than sorry approach other than "we're the mother fucking united states bitches"
