04-29-11, 12:31 AM #1TPG, Drugs And Censorship: Where does it stop?
I've been a long time reg here at TPG, first starting about three years ago and coming back on and off. All my time here I've seen censorship enforced at the servers. A few examples of what I've seen is any sort of discussion, name, or clan tag of things like: racism, porn, and drugs. Now I'm all for getting rid of racism, and porn sprays can be disrupting enough, but I've got a few questions.
First is why? On a case like drug names, which I've seen several times the last few days, I have never seen anyone with a drug name instigate a conversation that disrupted the gameplay, in fact if there is disruption, it's because an admin told them to cut it out and the person in question didn't want to ( or didn't know why he had to ).
Secondly, why not just get rid of swear words all together? I know the title of the thread was dramatic enough, but seriously, where does it stop? I'd be much more 'offended' by someone having the name "F*** YOU" than a "420" at the back of someone's name.
As a final note to the discussion, I'd like to say that as my main catalyst for starting this is that, after seeing someone get kicked/banned for saying drug references I think to myself, "he didn't really bother anybody", which just makes the ban look like discrimination. To me, that's worth taking a look at.
Also there could be a better place for this in the forums, but I'm talking about what I've experienced in the CS:S servers. I'll reiterate again, this is a discussion thread, and I get that there are rules in place, but let's look at this civilly. Don't be afraid to offer a hypothetical either.Words are only limited to the effable, while the indescribable is merely found within ourselves.

It's policy. Plain and simple.
Illegal drugs are illegal and as such, not to be discussed on the servers and/or forums.
You can debate legalization all you want though.

Re: TPG, Drugs And Censorship: Where does it stop?
Plain and simple answer is that TPG does not want to associate itself with illegal substances or activities. Having said references in your name, talking about them on the server, or talking about doing them on the server is forbidden. The same rule applies to the forums as well. Forcing someone to change their name because of a drug reference is not censorship in the least bit. It is enforcing a rule/policy that has been around since day 1 of TTP and will not change unless it is made legal by a vote of the government bodies. You also have to remember that TPG is a private organization and we can run things the way that we see fit, that is our given right.

Re: TPG, Drugs And Censorship: Where does it stop?
TPG's standard of gameplay is on a level so far beyond any other server, it just makes sense that there are rules and guidelines to help the players of the server maintain a positive, respectful image similar to that of the servers and community as a whole

Its not considered an illegal bad bad bad bad baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad drug in 16 states. That being said we are working towards 26 and once that happens I am sure the nation will begin to really look at the issue.
Policies in the USA and TPG are never in stone. Der.

I support tpg, no matter the rule. Its sad that may people push the issue. Our head hanchos have more important things to worry about, and it wastes their time haveing to deal with this bullshit over and over. Just stfu already, no one here cares about your illegal habbits...
Contrary to popular belief, smoking doesn't make you "cool". It makes u a waste of fuckin air in a society that is above you...
