I just finished editing a post on this page to include the studies in question.

I don't think guns should be allowed on college campuses, period, unless you are law enforcement. My reasoning is because let's face it... while there are many college students that are very responsible, many are breaking laws on a daily basis by way of underage drinking and buying, selling, and using drugs. Not to mention, young men still have raging hormones at that age and can easily become mentally unstable or emotional.

One big break-up with the high school girlfriend... and FFS, or "first fuck syndrome" sets in. I remember having friends do some really stupid things for girls... often illegal, such as vandalizing people's property, getting into fights, etc. Basically... if they had a gun, regardless if it was legal or not... things could have gotten worse.

I am all for concealed carry and even open carrying... in all sorts of public places. I just think colleges should be handled differently because most college kids are a bunch of douchebags that don't know a thing about being responsible. There are exceptions, of course, but sometimes a few bad apples can spoil the bunch, and in when it comes to college kids, there are more bad apples than good ones.

Let's not pretend that we all didn't do fucked up things in college... and those that are still in college, let's not pretend that you aren't regularly doing fucked up things. There is a time and place for everything, and it's called college. Lots of things to smoke/snort and magical teas to drink. Let's just leave the guns out of it while everyone is fucked up and partying.

Anywhere else, wave your guns around.

How about Faculty or Staff members?
Otherwise I pretty much agree......we don't need armed 20 year olds at frat parties.

HeavyG, Your reasoning is based upon a group that this doesn't apply to, underage college students. This applies to 21 and older CHL holders. The majority of those affected will be faculty. Afterall, Nothing is stopping guns on campus by those illegally doing so right now.

That's circular logic. If they're doing it, then of course nothing is stopping them. Are you suggesting that current laws are never preventing illegal guns from entering school grounds?

From what i have read so far the excuse used is the sample size was to large by lott and mustard and that crack was introduced. Honestly it reads like a pissing match between the 2 groups.

Laws have never stopped those bent on breaking them.

This - I can't see many "dumb" college students (age wise) going after, much less getting, their CHL and this is what the proposal would allow. Registered holders of a CHL, not every tom dick and harry. Huge difference in the overall population makeup between those two groups.

Why not? Stupid people like guns and weapons just as much as smart people. There are plenty of wack jobs out there with a CHL. Just because you can legally carry doesn't mean you are smart or stable, and in all honesty, I am okay with that. I just think the population of unstable "youths" is a lot higher in colleges. It should either be legal for everyone, or not legal for everyone. At this point, I think they should be illegal because today's college kids are just not too bright.

As for the faculty carrying... Not sure about that one. Not open carrying, but concealed, maybe.

Exactly, which is why the correlation is questionable at best.
