BBC News - More residents flee as Arizona Wallow fire grows

A huge wildfire in the US state of Arizona that has forced thousands from their homes, continues to grow as the blaze rages for a 10th day.

The so-called Wallow fire is now the second-largest in the state's history.

Winds fuelling the flames drove the last hold-outs from Greer, a small town near the New Mexico boarder, and threatened 7,000 residents nearby.

At this point, official say, the wildfire is considered to be 0% contained...

486 sq miles the Wallow fire is now, and it was human caused (the article doesn't mention it, but local news has numerous times). The largest fire in State history was the Rodeo–Chediski Fire, over 700 square miles in the Show Low area, and was also human caused (both fires, which merged together).

What am I trying to get at (with the title)? The fact that we can't have nice things, like a great forest, because idiots keep burning it down every damn year. Usually we have at least a dozen human caused fires, despite constant warnings about the extreme fire conditions etc). Most don't grow into something this big, but that starts at the wrong time, as this one did, can turn into a massive blaze and endanger the life and property of thousands.

And that is my point, why is it we can't have forests without people being fucking morons and starting a fire every damn year?

And for the record, I do think we need to do some thinning of the forest, and it would help especially with lightning caused fires, but the lack can't be blamed for this fire when it NEVER should of happened if people weren't stupid.

I used to like picking on environmentalists. Unfortunately yes. Don't get me wrong, I Have the Utmost Respect for the profession. But what has to happen to keep them Employed seems to be a catch 22.
