And DG..."just about every other man" would not make the same mistake as this guy...the average man isn't sending pics of his namesake to significant numbers of strangers on twitter...come on...

We're not quite THAT debased yet.

LOL they're working on it but my point wasn't the act itself but the responce to it.

Noone is obligated to answer questions truthfully concerning their private lives when those asking have no business asking in the first place.

If I asked you details about your and your wife's sex life, are you obligated to come clean just because I asked you? Or how about I ask you how times you wanked in the shower last month? If you said that you don't wank in the shower but I can prove that you did, does this make you a dishonorable person for not admitting the truth to me?

Just to recap, he wasn't 'caught' doing anything illegal. His privacy was invaded and he reacted like anyone else who's privacy had been invaded. There was no 'caught' at all, just an invasion into his privacy.
Nobody violated anything man, he freakin Tweeted it, publically. There it was, in public, in the open, from his own hand and clumsy mouse click...a picture of his pecker through his boxers intended for some girl...the reporter who asked about it didnt violate his privacy...the blogger who raised the issue didnt violate his privacy...he simply re-posted something that the esteemed official posted himself, albeit by accident.

    Invaded his privacy...pffft.

    Which response?

The outrage from his own party?
The amusement of the public who can't believe he actually tweeted?
The lies he came up with to cover it? Those pesky hackers!

The guy basically told the truth about himself by hitting the proverbial "Reply all" button.

Hi, My name is Senator Anthony Wiener, and I am a marginally happily married man who finds great enjoyment and satisfaction in tweeting porn stars and college girls pictures of my man-scaped chest and semi-erect penis. I find this to be a stimulating way to spend my time while my wife is off on the road on business.

Can you imagine the chats Ms. Wiener and her boss (hillary Clinton) are having about this? That shit is hilarious.

Hillary: Well look at it this way, I stayed with Bill and he put a cigar in that whore's va-jay-jay. Now I'm Secretary of State! I say stick with him!

His lie responce. You know what conversation your never going to hear from someone that doesn't want a divorce?

Wife: I saw your text messages to Vicki.
Husband: You caught me i slept with her.

The average responce is always going to be a lie. What makes even less sense to me is expecting a politician not to lie. I dont disagree it would be nice for them to have a higher moral standard but truth be known they are the ones with the lower moral standards.

Gotta admit DG, that "conversation" made me laugh quite a bit. I been thinkin somethin similar this entire thread. I don't much care what the guy does on his own time. I don't even really care that he lied about it. If he's dumb enough to admit it, especially since it seems to have gone to several people outside of his accidental twitter post, bring out the divorce lawyers and say goodbye to half your stuff.

Ask any cheating guy in the world whether he cheats, and if there's a chance that answer may get back to his wife (I.E. the question isn't being asked by his best friend) that answer's going to be no. And if you're asked by a reporter, where the response will be put in the news, you can be DAMN sure the answer is going to be no.

This isn't exactly an outrageous response. I think we need to stop overreacting so much.

    Re: Sex Scandal and Resignation

I'll go ahead and quote myself in this thread as it still applies.

This has less to do with the Sex, the lack thereof, the attempts, the wannabe booty call, or the titillation or who it was having, or not having any of it...and more to do with integrity and judgement.

Then lies, aggressively, to cover it up, then has a "mea culpa" moment and expects things to return to "Business as Usual"

....it is, more accurately IMO, an increasing frustration on the part of the public, and to a degree the media, with politicians who are abusing their position, powers, authority and acting as if they are the untouchable "nobility"

This has less to do with "puritanical" (thinly veiled reference to religion) misgivings about behavior (specifically sex)and more to do with overall honesty and integrity than some people credit.
This man's judgement, or the lacking of it, is galling. As it is for any other person (male/female) who thinks that it's wise and problem free to do things that they know that they should not be doing. Then, on top of "getting one's hand caught in the cookie jar", to have the hubris to deny, vehemently, that it was even your hand in the jar in the first place and that you are, instead, the "innocent victim" of an illegal attack ought to be enough to get people's eye's rolling in indignation. I could care less that he thinks so little of his wife that she's no more than a "receptacle" for his urgings. However, he very obviously understands that he shouldn't have been doing those things in the first place. And now that he's been caught at it, and attempted to cover it up all the while acting as if the general public and the media were too stupid to see what's really going on, the general public, IMO, have earned a little righteous indignation.

I think that the ethics investigation won't go anywhere. And likely shouldn't, as I can't even begin to think what House ethics rules he might have broken in this. I also smell a fair bit of Political Theater in the call for an ethics investigation. If he used government resources for this, there'll be some kind of penalty (likely small - no pun intended). If he sent any of those messages/pictures to someone underage then it's a whole other ball game.

I think that he should resign. I do not think that he should be forced out (as, technically, there were probably no laws broken). However, I think it'll speak volumes about his district and his constituents if he gets re-elected.
