End Hispanic/Black History Month
Have to agree with Morgan Freemon on this one. I'm Hispanic and also think that we should end Hispanic History Month. I don't even know which month is Hispanic history month off the top of my head. It doesn't make sense, we don't need a specific months to recognize the history of specific races. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for learning about history all year around about all races. Taking a month to recognize the history of only one specific race is borderline racist in itself. Why don't whites, asians, native americans have months? Is there history not as important as Hispanic/African Americans? I think that they should do away with it, what do you guys think?

Native Americans probably don't have a month because we don't want to teach little Billy how the US REALLY treated the Indians (personally learned through college classes some of the fucked up shit they don't teach you in high school). I don't know about the months (I also had no idea there was a Hispanic History Month) and if they should/shouldn't continue. I think it makes sense if you have a Black history month, you kind of need to have a Native American one (and probably an Asian one). Mostly as any reason you can give for Black History Month needed, you can give to the other two races.
Ideally though, schools would actually teach history, instead of the same basic US history every year, with one extra thing added. Personally I knew almost nothing about Africa, outside of reading/hearing news stories and (again) college classes. Shit if it wasn't for an interest in the subject, I would of only know about communism and where it is when it comes to Russia. Even within US history, personally learned a ton of stuff I'd never heard of, basically due to finding it on the internet. The school history, at least what they teach here in Arizona, is absolutely terrible imo. I wouldn't be shocked if they barely covered slavery and all that if it wasn't for Black History Month junk .
Considering even then, you basically learn the US is ebil because of slavery, and nothing about how it was an acceptable practice for years in most major countries, though not as big as here, and eventually we did end up about the only country still doing it for awhile as well IIRC. Nor the fact that racism against Africans and blacks (or African-english/african-italian whatever) that occurred and still does in some cases in other countries. Instead it was only the US that had the mass racism against Blacks/Africans/etc.
Bit of a off-topic story, but did you know there was a football (soccer) team in Italy that proudly boasted they never signed a black player? I think it in the 90s they finally stopped boasting that, have to look it up again though.

Re: End Hispanic/Black History Month
How about just....History Month?
Black, White. Asian, Native Americans, who cares. Take a month (any), and learn a piece of history (whoever's). And try to get the truth.....as much as possible. A good rule of thumb is if they taught you whatever in school, it was probably bs.
Schools have been horrible for a long time now when it comes to history. Politics and religion play a HUGE role in deciding what gets taught, and what doesn't. When I was in school, we completely skipped the Vietnam War......as if it never happened. What does get taught, gets so altered and f-ed up through the years, that many times it becomes complete fabrication. It's watered down bs by the time it hits the students.DJ Ms. White liked this post

I can't tell you one thing I remember about the Vietnam War, that was taught in class (and not learned from parents, or internet, or television). If we covered it, it was probably so basic they mine as well not taught it at all.
Even US Constitution and stuff like that, I learned more in a 100 level polisci community college class, then in a required high school class that was dedicated JUST to that topic.Last edited by Red_Lizard2; 06-27-11 at 07:27 PM.

If we deny certain races to have history months, people like jesse jackson would not stfu about it. I'm sick of minorities screaming equality, but doing everything they can to try to alienate themselfs and call it "pride"
Hey, Mr. Duke in the 70's turned the KKK into a "white pride" organazation and cut out the hatred and violence, but they still called them racist. God bless america....
