I personally don't either. It just amusing seeing them fall all over themselves apologizing and wringing their hands. Jesus, you said it own it. But PC dictates that people can't really speak their minds.
I LOL-d reading this earlier.

Quite correct - we're not Russia or Syria. In those countries, the state has shown a willingness to arrange for the deaths of those that insult it.
I didn't see the show, but I read the link. Halperin holds a senior position at Time Inc. It requires him to present himself in public in an appropriate and respectful manner. He knew what he said was wrong (though I don't think I'd quite call it a gaffe), and he apologised.
Cheers,

Meh if he thinks the President is a Dick then say it. Just pick a better forum than Live TV. Don't back off your principles or beliefs because of the Politically Correct.
From what I heard of Obama he may appreciate the candor as long as you back it up and provide why and alternatives. I know I would.

The term Politically Correct has become a catchall term, overused by the right. PC was a movement that happened, and really, ended, in the 90's, and produced things like "vertically challenged" and "differently abled." This isn't PC, it's just him being a bit unprofessional on the air, and taking it back.

Re: LOL to media types stepping on the own tender parts
PC, regardless of whether you think it's some "catchall" or not, is very real and ongoing. And has, IMO, very little to do with left or right. PC, at its essence, is the willful suppression or suspension of reality (read: real perspective/opinion/thought whether offensive or inoffensive) in order to coddle sensibilities. The sad outcome of this is a failure of a great many people to speak clearly and honestly. Instead they dissemble endlessly, or lie by omission, or a commit great number of other intellectually dishonest acts when interacting with their fellow men. Who says that every message has to be polished to the point that it is no longer recognizable as the idea that spawned it?
I am happy to say that my TPG colleagues who partake in these discussions remain largely unaffected by this particular affliction, much to my relief.
You say it was unprofessional. Ok, I'll go there. However, there was a time when comments that were "unprofessional", yet still honestly made, were accepted as such. Honest commentary or opinion. FFS. Adults should be able to realize the difference between honest commentary, shameless trolling and "oh shit did I just say that?" moments. To those adults who can't, they should contact the nearest baby-sitter and schedule an appointment for themselves.Last edited by Alundil; 06-30-11 at 01:46 PM. Reason: Added grammar for clarity
