No More Eye Exams At DMV For NY State Drivers « CBS New York

Kind of eh on this, the eye exams are good just to make sure that everything is still on the straight and narrow, yet at the same time I can see where it is often redundant. In my experience with the Arizona DMV anyways, streamlining and less people there never sped anything up though xD. But still, what are your thoughts on it?

Starting Wednesday, drivers will “self-certify” that they meet the vision requirement when they renew.

Yeah....I can see a lot of people lying about that. :/

to be candid, if I lived in New York, I'd probably be one of them...(I'm already supposed to wear my glasses any time I drive but don't. Mostly as I have an astigmatism so it isn't like I can't see well enough to drive without glasses (Well at night I need them, and thus wear em)).

I don't have to deal with eye tests anymore 3 years ago I had lasik surgery. It was the best money I ever spent ! BTW Red they can do lasik even if you have an astigmatism you should look into it.

I've been pondering that. Hmmm...does eye insurance cover it?

I don't think so. But medical "flex" accounts can be used to cover/offset the costs a little so you get the tax protection on that.

And good to know that they can handle astigmatisms now as well. Back when I first entertained the idea - they were not able to do so.

Man I remember watching people fail the vision test multiple times in NY during a few DMV trips, and also watched them hop in their car and drive away. People also wore contacts there to so they wouldn't have that on the record. I don't really see this making much of a difference.

Oh and LASIK is a bit iffy. Results aren't guaranteed to last that long (depends on your eyes and how you heal). Also I'm pretty sure that if you get LASIK and your vision starts to go again, contacts are no longer an option.
