Re: Just disgusting
I don't get it...that IS a female right? why did the nurse ask if she is a lesbian? is that normal? I cant even look at the rest of it until I figure out the base
"When I heard my name called, 'Esther,' I got up and walked toward the voice of the woman, who barely looked at me, and called me 'Sir.' I followed her into her office and before I sat down, politely said, 'Actually, it’s Ma’am…. My name is Esther.

DG,
Gabapentin is just a generic for Neurontin. It may be prescribed for many reasons, including epilepsy patients to help control seizures, but is also prescribed quite frequently to to patients with neuropathy and nerve damage to help deal with nerve pain. Nerve pain is different from other pain and can not be treated with regular pain meds. The Neurontin helps ease the symptoms of the nerve pain and can actually eliminate it in some cases.
I happen to know a lot about this medication because I was prescribed 300mg tablets 4x/day when I had injured my hand (almost lost 2 fingertips). I had gone through microsurgery from a hand specialist and he reattached my nerve endings so I could still have feeling in my fingertips. The pain while the nerves were healing was almost unbearable. The Gabapentin almost totally eliminated the pain, but the side effects were terrible. The drug is also extremely addictive and you need to gradually come off of it or you will go through withdrawal symptoms and can actually have some serious problems.
A good friend of mine was also on Gabapentin to deal with his neuropathy he was experiencing after going through many chemotherapy treatments for his cancer. He was taking 3600mg/day, for many years, just so he was able to function. He eventually stopped taking the meds and decided to deal with the neuropathy and pains he experienced as he simply didn't like the way the meds made him feel any longer.
Anyways... not that I am adding much to the discussion, but I don't know if the VA hospital would have given this patient this medication unless her injury was nerve related or something similar, although the med has a wide range of use.

No i didnt say she was given it. I was and it was for nerve damage. There are some funny things about the VA see if you can help me figure this one out. I was perscribed gabipentin with a never ending script, methadone, oxycodone, and had needles shoved in my spine several times. Yet the doctor there says the pain is all in my head. In his opinion, which differs from several specialists, there is no way for me to have compartment syndrome in my legs because it takes a crushing injury to cause it. Yet my inury is from both legs being run up and then backed off by a forklift with a curb weight of 20k lbs with 1700 lbs of bombs and equipment on the forks. Appearntly in his mind that is not a crushing accident.
Maybe im not recalling everything correctly about the drug but i remember the class action lawsuit for it. Anyway its not important. The important part was giving the example of what the VA is and what its like dealing with them. People complain about pill farms here in florida yet the largest pill farm is funded by the government. They aren't interested in fixing or treating the problem. Sure some people get lucky and get someone who gives a shit but overall the idea is hand them pills and they'll go away.

Re: Just disgusting
Dont be. I'm stronger for everything i encounter in life. I shouldnt by all accounts and experts be able to walk. Yet here i am walking and i do use a cane when i walk alot but that isnt that big of a deal. Some people might not be able to take the pain i have but i had a high tolerance before the accident and its truely amazing what you can get use to. So here i am a walking cynical fucker here to piss off as many people as i can. I'm happy with my life with only 2 regrets. One being i didnt get to keep the job i truely enjoyed. The other being i wish those at the VA cared half as much about their job as i did with mine. There be a lot less people getting fucked by them then.

Well, in most cases if you get fucked up on the job and the company you work for does nothing for you, there would be public outcry. Why is it that in the case of our veterans, people just don't give a shit? Does Veterans' Day mean nothing? I bet if this shit was happening to retired senators something would be done.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Just disgusting
In reality no Veterans Day doesn't mean shit. Its a day where vets hope to get the day off but go into work anyway. People in general dismiss anything that does not directly affect them. So i cant hate on people for not being concerned that the VA is a whopping fucking failure at its sole purpose. I would agree with you on the senators part though. I would even go as far as to say if politicians had to use government treatment ie VA hospitals and clinics things would be very different.
